The One Meant-to-be

Unfurled

Sometime in the year 4084

During the Blight’s War

Living in the Kingdom of Cuscing

In the shadow of the sadistic King

Stood the one meant to rule

While withstanding the King’s ridicule

This white hat did his job with a smile

Continuing to scrub each tile

Nary a day went by without brutality

Or that he did not see the King’s cruelty

With his head down, he witnessed all

Unaware of his fate, he sensed the call

👑

Day in and day out, the lad did his job

A grueling chore, since the King was a slob

Shoes tracking mud, clothes on the floor

Food drawing flies, the slovenly Ruler asking for more

Cussing the servants, complaining at every turn

Striking out in anger, the monarch had little concern

Whom he hurt, whether royalty or peasant

Our hero, though, went about his chores, always pleasant

Sweeping the floors, putting up the garments

Sometimes he wore the thrown condiments

Humbly, the boy stoically stood by,

As the rotten ruler gleefully made others cry

🧹

As each day passed, the king grew more rabid

No one could make him happy, no matter what they did

He was a rotten man deep inside

This he did not try to hide

The lad’s character shined bright and true

All who saw him instantly knew

That he’d go far in the world

If his wings ever unfurled

Then came the day of the power display

The monarch made one mistake and would dearly pay

Making a decision of such poor taste

He made a huge mistake in all haste

🪽

Waking up on the day in question

The palace was already filling up with congestion

The king had declared his birthday a holiday

The castle staff was busy with his demands for the day

Not even the people of the kingdom were free

There were no exemptions, not even for a babe under three

Everyone had to bring the ruler a special gift

Each one hoping his highness’ mood would not suddenly shift

But what’s meant to be, will be

And with most of the nation to see

There could be no cover-up of the day's event

The petulant monarch acted with ill intent

🏰

Everyone showed up wearing their most formal

Only for the king to act ten times worse than normal

He started the tantrum by throwing the banquet food

At all the guests who stood

Going a little further and pulling the hair

Just whose hair he pulled, he didn’t care

The gifts he hated, so he began to rage

His attitude became center stage

Each of his deeds more and more atrocious

Until he’d become downright ferocious

Touching the princess with his tainted claws

That was just one too many straws

😡

With a mighty roar, the young man barged through the hall doors

The anger upon his face shook the guests to their cores

Letting him walk by, they parted, showing their fear

The lad, visibly seething, issued a challenge as he drew near

As he spoke, his wings for the first time unfurled

His words he rapidly hurled

“Bully! Scrooge! Tyrant!

Trodding on all as if you're a giant!

Unhand her, for her purity is not for you!”

First he kicked off the first one, then the other shoe

Then, throwing a candle at his ruler, the young man advanced

The king was a boil on this land that needed to be lanced

🤍

In surprise, the intimidating Highness turned

Just in time to be hit with the candle and burned

With an angry cry, he pulled out his dagger

The wax in his eyes causing him to stagger

Gaining his footing

He gave the jester a booting

As he yelled out

“You worthless lout!

How dare you interfere!

Why don’t you disappear!

She’s mine, you fool!

I own all, because I rule!”

🕯️

The young man did not listen

In a rage, his eyes glisten

Breaking the handle of his broom

He strode the last few steps across the banquet room

There were no more words

Several knights offered him their swords

Ignoring each

He stopped just out of the king’s reach

The monarch’s last words were “Bring it”

The lad held both ends of the broom handle in a brazier until lit

Both opponents met each other in the middle

Suddenly, a string snapped on a fiddle

🔥

The folks in the hall were tensely watching the fight

Praying for the side that was in the right

They wanted an end to the tyranny, the madness

All they wanted was a life full of gladness

So they cheered the lad as the fight raged on

They knew this fight must be won

If they’d ever be to know peace again

If he lost, they were all doomed men

So with each blow

They all mumbled low

Following closely each move made

They were all tired of living afraid

👥

It did seem that the king and lad were a fairly matched

The crowd was scared the tyrant could not be dispatched

Back and forth they went

Neither could be bent

The king with a dagger, the lad with his handles

In the process, they spilled several candles

Wax on the throne room floor

The guards chose a side, blocking the door

Blows landed with a novice’s training

The king was really taking a braining

The anger of the youth was great

The fight went on until very late

🗡️

In the air, on the ground

They raged all around

The youth was undoubtedly strong

The King's stamina was just wrong

The banquet room was turned upside down

The evil sovereign lost his crown

This battle had gone on way too long

Suddenly, the chamber was full of bird song

Our hero stood with his wings spread

And the wicked monarch lay at his feet, dead

Breathing hard, the lad looked out on the crowd

They suddenly roared and cheered, getting extremely loud

🐦

Separating from the crowd, the captain of the guard stepped

Grabbing the king’s crown, he wiped it to make sure it was prepped

Approaching our winged victor, he knelt and offered the crown

The lad, confused, took it with a frown

The captain stood and spoke

“With the wicked tyranny broke

We of the Kingdom of Cuscing

Do pronounce you our king.”

The Now-King stood straight, with crown upon his feathery brow

Kneeling before the princess, the loyal lad took his vow

To serve the kingdom at her side

And for her, he would always lovingly provide
