We knew that the Earth was heading for oblivion, but we didn't expect this.

Fossil Fuel companies had paid governments to stop renewables and make them illegal, with anyone caught using solar, wind or wave power being imprisoned and all their property confiscated.

The billionaire had used their government-purchased tax breaks and survivalists their know-how to build their bomb shelters, but most people didn't want to die but didn't want to spend the rest of their natural lives in a sealed anti-radiation tomb.

Fossil fuel power stations, aeroplanes and cars pumped their poison gases into the atmosphere, and many had to wear masks when out of doors. City smogs were getting worse and falling even in the countryside.

Then something changed, the sun and the stars seemed to be seen through a distorted window, it was almost as though the sky, amd atmosphere was no longer gaseous but a liquid or solid viscous sheet surrounding the earth.

Scientists could not explain it, but confirmed it and were working on solutions. Religious leaders targeted minority groups and blamed them for their heretical ways and said this was their god's retribution for their evil behaviour.

Politicians, Bankers and the media issued a statement for everyone to carry on as normal, as this would pass as long as people kept working and paying their taxes.

Then the sky started to melt.

The viscosity hit the Earth and didn't stop, eventually emerging on the other side, defying gravity and ending up back in the acid sheet that sow surrounded the globe.

The Earth was being turned into a Swiss cheese, and that meant that lava and magma from the centre was bubbling to the surface and destroying anything it came into contact with. The shelters were as sturdy as tissue paper against the material of the melting sky.

The more holes appeared, the less stable the planet was becoming, and it could not be stopped.

There was no escape for any living creature.

Earth collapsed in on itself along with its poison blanket leaving a burning charred mass and an unstable moon where Earth once was.

Even the bank accounts didn't survive.

What, the bank accounts didn't survive? How's that possible? ;) Brilliant! That's the one thing, the only thing, that might actually get attention. One typo you might want to tackle: "statement for everyine". Cheers!

An interesting twist on the End of Days. I like the way it describes the reactions of the various groups.
