The Lost Fawn

A short, tall tale.

By Vocal CreatorPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, there lived a herd of deer. The herd consisted of several families of deer who roamed the forest, feeding on the lush green vegetation and drinking water from the nearby streams. The forest was their home, and they had lived there for generations. They were happy and content, and life was good.

One day, a young fawn was born into one of the families. She was a beautiful creature, with soft brown fur and big, bright eyes. Her parents were overjoyed, and the entire herd celebrated the new arrival. The fawn was named Willow, and she was loved by all.

As Willow grew, she became more and more adventurous. She loved to explore the forest and would often wander off on her own, much to the concern of her parents. They would warn her about the dangers that lurked in the forest, but Willow was fearless and would not be deterred.

One day, while exploring the forest, Willow wandered too far from her family. She didn't realize how far she had gone until she turned around and saw that she was all alone. Panic set in as she realized that she didn't know how to find her way back to her family. She called out for them, but there was no response.

As the sun began to set, Willow grew more and more frightened. She had never spent a night alone in the forest before and didn't know what to do. She tried to remember what her parents had taught her about survival in the forest, but it all seemed so distant and irrelevant now.

As night fell, Willow curled up under a bush, shivering and scared. She tried to stay awake, but exhaustion soon overtook her, and she fell into a restless sleep.

The next morning, Willow awoke to the sound of birds chirping. She sat up, rubbing her eyes and stretching her legs. As she looked around, she realized that she was still lost. She didn't know which way to go or how to find her family.

For the next few days, Willow wandered through the forest, surviving on whatever she could find. She ate berries, drank from streams, and slept wherever she could find shelter. She was getting weaker and weaker, and her spirit was broken.

One day, while wandering through a particularly dense part of the forest, Willow heard a faint sound. It was a low, mournful call, and it seemed to be coming from somewhere nearby. Willow's heart lifted at the sound. Could it be her family? She listened carefully, and the sound came again. It was a deer call.

Willow followed the sound, her heart beating fast. As she pushed through the undergrowth, she saw a small clearing up ahead. There, lying on the ground, was a fawn. It was injured and unable to move, and it was the source of the mournful call that Willow had heard.

Willow approached the injured fawn cautiously, not wanting to scare it. As she got closer, she saw that it was a young male fawn, and he was badly hurt. He had a deep cut on his leg, and he was bleeding heavily.

Without hesitation, Willow sprang into action. She had never tended to an injured deer before, but she knew that she had to try. She started by licking the wound, and cleaning away the dirt and blood. She then used her teeth to remove any debris that was lodged in the wound.

For hours, Willow tended to the injured fawn. She stayed with him, licking his wounds and keeping him company. She knew that she couldn't leave him alone, and she was determined to help him in any way that she could.

As the sun began to set, Willow realized that she had to find help.
