In the deepest, darkest corner of the depths of the ocean, there lived a happy, Jovial and young mermaid named Ariel. Or so the story’s claim.

According to the happy story we’ve seen in movies, she was known for her enchanting voice and her insatiable curiosity about the world beyond the sea. Ariel's heart was captivated by tales of the human realm, and she longed to explore it. She was just your friendly neighborhood mermaid, thinking happy thoughts all day and having childish crushes on various mermaids and sailors she’d meet along the way. But only those closest to her, like her father, knew of Ariel’s dark and twisted side. He was the one who secretly talked to Ursula about turning her into a human and sending her to the land so he could be rid of her. Ursula asked if he was sure, and he shrugged and said, “it’s either that or I send her to an insane asylum.”

A sailer almost drowned one day and Ariel rescued him. This caused Ariel's deep desire to be human to eventually turn into an obsession, and her father, eager to get rid of her, led her to the surface where she caught a glimpse of the handsome young prince she rescued. She talked to him briefly and found he was named Eric. She was spellbound by his charm, and her father encouraged her to go meet him.

“Obviously dad, he’s so sexy and handsome. I could just eat him up,” Ariel said with an eldritch and evil smirk on her face and put her hands together and started laughing.

“But please don’t, dear. As king of the mermaids it makes me look bad. We want a good relationship with the humans, honey,” Ariel’s father said.

“God, dad. Don’t tell me what to do. If I want to eat him, I’m going to eat him,” Ariel insisted and put her hand up in her dads face. Ariel’s father sighed.

“Teenagers,” he muttered.

Determined to be with her newfound elite and edible human companion, Ariel asked her father what to do.

“Ask an octopus,” he said.

“Ask an octopus,” Ariel mocked in a high pitched whiny voice while pressing her lips together.

“I’m just trying to be helpful honey. I have a lot of magical powers, but I can’t turn you into a human. There are certain octopus powers, however, that can do just that,” Ariel’s father said.

“God dad, like, could you be any more vague? Can’t you just tell me what freaking octopus to talk to?” Ariel complained.

“Go to Ursula,” Ariel’s father said.

“Ugh. I don’t want to go to Ursula anymore. I don’t want to be human. I don’t want to do anything you say. I hate listening to you. You’re so damn annoying, god,” Ariel whined.

“Good, because you’re grounded, young lady. You’re never to leave your room again. You’ll never be allowed to become a human or marry a human prince. Ha ha ha,” Ariel’s father said smugly.

“I’m running away. You can’t tell me what to do! You’re not the boss of me,” Ariel whined and swam away to see Ursula.

“Oh, thank god. Some peace and quiet,” Ariel’s dad said.

Ariel made her way to Ursula’s lair, then made a deal with the octopus to trade what she thought was her beautiful singing voice for a pair of legs, not realizing that her father already knew she was going to do this and pre-approved the deal with Ursula. Everyone under the sea found Ariel’s singing obnoxious except Ariel, who’s singing even caused ears to bleed on occasion. Despite Ursula saying she didn’t need anything from Ariel to give her legs, Ariel’s father made sure Ursula would throw that in as part of the deal.

“Please. I can’t take her obnoxious whining singing voice anymore. She keeps me up all night with it and when I tell her to pipe down because I need sleep she only sings louder,” Ariel’s father pleaded.

“Fine,” Ursula reluctantly agreed. She was reluctant until she asked Ariel to sing one last time.

“Oh, ouch dear, that’s hurting my ears. I’m just going to magically put your singing voice in this jar now,” Ursula said and jarred Ariel’s singing voice.

“Now give me my damn legs,” Ariel whined.

“I only have eight tentacles dear, I’m doing what I can as fast as I can,” Ursula said and waved her wand through the water, causing Ariel’s legs to burst through her flippers.

“Yay, legs,” Ariel screeched in a pitch that hurt Ursula’s ears and clapped her hands.

“Ugh, teenagers,” Ursula muttered.

Ariel swam to the surface to go find her Prince. Ariel emerged from the sea, excited that her tail transformed into beautiful long, skinny legs.

She was at the oceans end where the water met sand, and started walking on land for the first time.

She struggled to balance, but with practice and a stubbornness causing her to get up after each fall, she eventually got the hang of land walking.

She asked around about Prince Eric to find out where he lived, and eventually someone gave her directions to a gothic style castle. She approached the guards and demanded they let her in, explaining that she’s a princess, daughter of King Triton. They didn’t believe her, so she grabbed a large stick from the ground, poked it through the gate and used it as a billy club to knock the guards out. She used the stick again to grab the keys out of one of the guards pockets so she could unlock the gate.

She walked to the castle doors, used the keys to open them, knocked out two more guards inside, and started shouting for Prince Eric.

Prince Eric ran to the door thinking it was an emergency, and his jaw dropped when he saw his guards on the floor.

“Just who the hell are you, and why did you knock out my guards?” He exclaimed.

“I’m Ariel. We met when I saved your life after you fell out of your boat, remember? I only look different because I have legs now. I used to be a mermaid,” Ariel said and smiled.

“Oh yah, that’s right. But I didn’t know you’d come visit me. Now is not really a good time, I have another…”

“Shut up and kiss me. I’ll take care of the other woman, you love me now!” Ariel said, grabbed Prince Eric and smooched him.

A woman came running up to Ariel and screamed, “get your hands off my husband. Just who the hell do you think…” and Ariel knocked the woman over the head with her stick, grabbed the woman and threw her out the door so hard she flew over the castle gates and rolled all the way to the beach.

“Holy crap. You’re very strong,” Prince Eric said, his jaw slumping in shock.

“You love me now, right darling? You’re now my Prince Eric,” Ariel insisted.

“Su… su.. sure,” Prince Eric Stammered.

“Good! Then I demand we spend quality time together. Let’s go for a walk so I can break these legs in,” Ariel said. Prince Eric was still standing still from shock.

“NOW,” Ariel yelled.

“Yes ma’am,” Prince Eric said, then they left for a walk through the meadows.

They spent many joyful moments together, and Ariel's infatuation with her new prince and play toy grew stronger with every passing day, at least from Ariel’s perspective. Prince Eric grew more terrified, and at this point wished Ariel had let him drown.

As time went on, Ariel's dark fascination turned into a darker and more obscure obsession. She became possessive and jealous, even beating up the maids who had the audacity to look Prince Eric in the eye.

Unable to bear the thought of Eric being with anyone else, she plotted on how to keep her Prince in captivity. Her mind always thinking about Eric now, she began to play tricks on him to convince him to stay in the confines of the castle, hoping to keep him by her side forever.

Ariel's tricks escalated as she started to gaslight Eric, making him doubt his own senses and sanity. She would rearrange objects in his room, whisper haunting words in the dark, and create illusions that twisted his perception of reality. Eric was left feeling confused and trapped within his own home.

“Am I going crazy Ariel or are you trying to keep me here,” he finally asked.

“I’m not trying to trick you. You sound insane. You’re scaring me, darling. Here, drink some sleepy tea I made for you and go back to bed where you belong, my love. Get some rest,” Ariel said.

One day, Ariel's obsession reached its peak. She tied Eric to his bed, demanding that he tell her romantic stories with happy endings, desperately searching for the happiness she believed only he could give her.

"Where's my happy ending?" she would always ask at the end of the story, her voice tinged with desperation and always lugubrious.

But Eric, despite his fear and feelings of entrapment, remained resilient and tried to convince her she needed not worry about his loyalty. He was much too afraid of her strength, tenacity, determination and insanity to even consider cheating.

He pleaded with Ariel to release him, promising that he would find a way to bring her the happiness and wonderful ending she sought and so much deserved. Ariel refused to listen, her obsession blinding her to reason or logic.

“You’re a part of me now, Eric. You’re mine forever, ha ha ha,” Ariel said while cackling and snorting. Ariel then used her wrist to wipe her leaky nose dry.

“See, my Prince. My nose is leaking. I’m literally allergic to letting you go,” Ariel said and laughed maniacally before coughing up mucus.

In a moment of unexpected strength fueled by adrenaline and an energy drink he asked Ariel for earlier, Eric managed to free himself from the ropes and kick Ariel to the floor.

Ariel quickly got up and said “I guess I didn’t tie those ropes right. They’re clearly not tight enough,” and slapped Eric hard enough to knock him back to the bed.

Eric quickly stood up as well, only for Ariel to wrap her cold, skinny, slime covered and impossibly strong hands around his neck.

“Stop choking me you maniac,” Eric managed to say through clinched teeth while struggling to breathe. He fought against Ariel's tight grasp, finally knocking her to the ground again. This time, he ran as fast as he could, escaping her still slower then human legs. Lucky for him, he’d had many more years of practice walking on land.

Unbeknownst to Eric, Ariel had implanted a magical tracking device in his stomach while he was sleeping.

While the device was only meant to keep tabs on his whereabouts, she didn’t want him to leave but knew she still couldn’t keep up with a native land walker, so she shouted to Eric “I put a bomb in your stomach. I can blow it up whenever I want to, so you better come back here, or else!”

“Whatever,” Eric mumbled.

As Eric continued to flee, he could hear a faint beeping sound echoing from his belly. Fear gripped his heart and his stomach tightened as he wondered if it really could be a bomb.

Realizing he needed help, Eric ran into the woods to seek the wise counsel of a sorceress he had heard of, Maleficent, who resided deep within the mystical forest. He knew what her house looked like from paintings and descriptions, and knew it’s general location from many years of hiking through these woods as a child.

“I need your help. The maniac at my castle threw my last wife out and forced me to marry her. And while I’ve grown to love Ariel, she’s gone even more crazy and wants me tied up. What do I do?” Prince Eric said.

“While I think love is a fools game, I’ll help you win, for a price,” Maleficent said.

“You name it. Anything. It’s yours. Just fix Ariel, please,” Prince Eric pleaded.

“I demand… a shrubbery,” Maleficent said.

“A shrubbery?” Prince Eric asked. Maleficent nodded.

Prince Eric went outside and brought back in a shrubbery.

“Now will you help me?” Prince Eric asked. Maleficent smiled.

“First, can you shut off this explosive device in my stomach?” Eric pleaded again.

The sorceress, using her powers, was able to reveal the truth about the device Ariel inserted into Eric’s stomach.

“It’s a harmless magical tracking device, not a bomb as Ariel had led you to believe,” Maleficent said.

Relieved, Eric sat down. Maleficent explained to Eric that Ariel's actions were driven by her obsession and not by a desire to harm him. With a simple anti-obsession spell, this could all be fixed. Eric told her to cast the spell immediately and she did.

Desperately hoping the spell worked, Eric decided to confront Ariel and see if she had really broken free from her destructive obsession.

While the spell helped a little, Ariel still was mildly obsessed with Prince Eric. But Prince Eric, being compassionate and for some reason loving of Ariel, decided to help her.

Together, they embarked on a journey of self-discovery, spiritual conquest, and emotional healing, signing up for therapy programs and hiring relationship counselors to guide them along the way.

Through understanding, compassion, and the support of many profesional’s, and of course Eric’s mom, Cynthia, Ariel learned to let go of her unhealthy fixation and find happiness within herself. But of course, she still loved Eric, and he still loved her.

In time, Ariel's brain healed, and she found solace and calm in her renewed connection with Eric, and now had a healthy love instead of obsession with him.

Ariel briefly went to the ocean and had Ursula give her most loyal servants legs and brought them back to Eric’s castle to meet him and the other vibrant inhabitants that lived there. Ariel also had Eric’s first wife turned into a frog, ensuring she would never come back.

Eric, too, moved forward, cherishing the lessons he had learned and embracing a future filled with love and growth with Ariel.

“I’m glad we worked out our issues, my love,” Eric said and smiled.

“Me too, my little sugar muffin,” Ariel said and kissed Eric on the cheek.

And so, the tale of Ariel and Eric became a reminder that even in the face of obsession and darkness, there is always a glimmer of hope for redemption, healing, and the power to find true happiness. And of course, love.

Ariel and Eric then made lots of babies together, invested in real estate, made billions, and lived happily ever after.

The end.

Lugubrious I think that's my word of the day 😁

  • Whoaaa, I love that you brought Maleficent into the story! I resonated deeply with Ariel because I too have an issue with obsession. Maybe not as terrible as her, lol! I laughed when Eric nonchalantly said whatever when she said there's a bomb in his stomach. But I do have one doubt. I thought Ursula took Ariel's voice because King Triton asked her to as he couldn't stand her singing. So how come she still had her voice after becoming a human?
