Once upon a time, in a small town, there was a man named John who had a great sense of humor. He was always cracking jokes and making everyone laugh. One day, John decided to put his comedic skills to the test and entered a local stand-up comedy contest.

The night of the contest arrived, and John nervously took the stage. The audience was packed, and the judges sat in the front row, looking stern and unamused. John began his routine, telling jokes about his wife, his kids, and his job.

The audience chuckled politely, but the judges remained stone-faced. John began to panic, thinking he was bombing. He decided to switch things up and tell a joke he had never tried before.

"Have you heard about the new restaurant called Karma?" he asked. "There's no menu; you get what you deserve."

The audience erupted in laughter, and even the judges cracked a smile. John continued with his set, and the audience laughed harder and harder with each joke. By the end of his routine, John had the audience in stitches, and the judges declared him the winner of the contest.

Over the next few weeks, John became the talk of the town. People would stop him on the street to tell him how much they enjoyed his routine. He even started getting offers to perform at local events and parties.

One day, John received a call from a big-time comedy club in the city. They had heard about his success in the small town and wanted him to perform on their stage. John couldn't believe it. This was the big break he had been waiting for.

He practiced his routine for weeks, tweaking jokes and perfecting his timing. The night of the performance arrived, and John took the stage, feeling confident and ready.

The audience was rowdy and boisterous, and John struggled to get their attention. He started with his usual routine, but the audience didn't seem to be enjoying it as much as the people back home. John started to sweat, feeling the pressure of the big city.

Then he remembered his joke about Karma. He took a deep breath and delivered it with all the gusto he could muster.

Silence.

No one laughed.

John felt the pit of his stomach drop. He had bombed. He tried to recover, but the audience was already lost. He stumbled through the rest of his set, feeling defeated and embarrassed.

After the show, John went back to his hotel room and wallowed in self-pity. He couldn't believe he had failed so spectacularly. He was ready to give up on comedy altogether.

But then he heard a knock at the door. It was one of the audience members from the show, a man who had been sitting in the back.

"Hey, I just wanted to say, that joke about Karma was hilarious," the man said.

John was confused. "But no one laughed."

The man shrugged. "Maybe they didn't get it. But I did. And I think you're really funny. Don't give up."

John felt a surge of hope. Maybe he wasn't a failure after all. He decided to keep going, to keep telling jokes and making people laugh.

And that's exactly what he did. John went on to become a successful comedian, known for his unique brand of humor and his never-give-up attitude. And every time he told his joke about Karma, he couldn't help but smile, knowing that he had turned a failure into a triumph.
