The Intruder
A tribute to a hero who never shirked his duty.
An intruder approaches. I'm on high alert. They're getting closer. I run to the main lookout post, cortisol flooding my body. I sound the alarm. They keep coming. I call out, warning them not to take another step. I am armed, and I will use my weapons if needed. They are either brave or stupid. I'm determined to defend this location, no matter what it takes. The prospect unnerves me. I admit to shaking, muscles humming with tension. But look - they are leaving! Panting with relief, I return to my basket.
But wait! Another intruder approaches!

I found out a terrible thing about my husband. I found it out long before we married. Actually, it was just a little after we met. I forgave him and decided I could make it work. In all honesty, maybe I always knew, on some level. The very thing that should have repelled me, drew me in. Isn't that the way with all of us?

She loves me
She loved me. When I was small and my wee stayed to the paper. When I was rumpled skin and floppy big paws and big eyes looking up and waiting for her hands to find me, scooping me up and bringing me into her. And we were happy, so happy, so very, very happy. I was so happy to see her and danced my circles so she'd know how much I wanted nothing more than for her to hold me. I'd wrap, wiggle, wiggle and wrap my growing body with my bestest happy dance, slumping and kerplumping into her warm parts just like she liked me to. She was there and I was there, and we were there together, and it was perfect. Oh, how she loved me! We spent all our time together, playing inside, outside, up, down, going round and round. And she petted me and called me good girl when I made poops, and sometimes when I weed in her front yard or the neighbor's, and I was the best girl. For her, I really was! And she scratched me behind my ears, and it was heaven. I aowooo my joy! And she aowoooed hers too.

The Ugliest Structure
Mark Twain called the structure I work in, "The ugliest structure in America." I concur. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Chief Place of business isn't the biggest in Washington, D.C., yet its forcing façade causes it to feel as is it. I work for the Workplace of E-Government and Data Innovation. I have a satellite office in the guts of this monster. Working in this building gives us fast admittance to both the President and VP in light of the fact that they additionally have workplaces here. This entrance might be the reason I'm in this present circumstance, or perhaps it's the undertaking I'm alloted to, or both.
