There was a small, old school in the countryside that had been around for many decades. The school had a reputation for being haunted, and many of the local children whispered that the ghost of a former teacher still roamed the halls. The students and staff had never seen the ghost, but strange things often happened in the school, such as doors slamming shut on their own, or footsteps echoing through the halls even when no one was there.

Despite these rumors, the school remained open, and the students continued to attend their classes. However, there was a group of four students in particular who were particularly curious about the ghost. They were always talking about it, and they would stay up late into the night discussing the various strange occurrences that had taken place in the school.

One day, the students came up with a plan. They would spend the night in the school, and see if they could find any evidence of the ghost. They convinced the janitor to let them stay, and he agreed, on the condition that they did not cause any trouble.

As night fell, the students settled into their makeshift beds and began to wait. They were all a little scared, but they were also excited to finally get some answers. Suddenly, they heard a faint knocking at the door. It was so soft that they could barely hear it, but it was enough to send shivers down their spines.

One of the students bravely went to the door, and opened it a crack. To their surprise, there was no one there. They looked around, but there was no sign of anyone. They shrugged it off, thinking it was just their imagination, and went back to their beds.

But the knocking continued. It grew louder and more persistent, and the students began to realize that something was not right. They huddled together in a corner, too scared to move, and listened as the knocking grew louder and more frantic. Suddenly, the door burst open and a figure appeared in the doorway.

The students could not make out its features, but they could tell that it was tall and thin, with long, tangled hair. It was shrouded in a thick, misty fog, and its eyes glowed like embers in the darkness. The students screamed, but the figure simply stood there, silently staring at them.

As the students cowered in fear, the ghost began to speak. Its voice was quiet and raspy, but it echoed through the room. It told the students that it was the ghost of a former teacher who had died in the school many years ago. She had been a cruel and harsh teacher, and her students had suffered greatly under her hand. She had died of a sudden illness, and her spirit had been trapped in the school ever since.

The ghost told the students that she was seeking revenge on those who had wronged her, and that she would not rest until she had claimed her pound of flesh. The students listened in terror, and they knew that they were in grave danger. They tried to run, but the ghost was too fast. It chased them through the halls, its laughter echoing behind them.

They finally made it to the door, but it was locked. The students banged on it and screamed for help, but no one came. They were trapped, and the ghost was getting closer. Just as they thought that all was lost, they heard a voice calling out to them. It was the janitor, and he had come to rescue them.

He unlocked the door and helped the students escape, but the ghost was still on their trail. They ran as fast as they could, but the ghost was still gaining on them. Just as it was about to catch up, the students stumbled upon an old chapel that was located just outside of the school grounds. They quickly ran inside and hid behind one of the pews.

The ghost appeared at the door of the chapel, its eyes blazing with anger. It stepped inside, its long hair trailing behind it like a river of smoke. The students held their breath, waiting for the worst, but to their surprise, the ghost simply vanished into thin air.

They sat there in stunned silence, trying to make sense of what had just happened. The janitor explained to them that the chapel was a place of peace and sanctity, and that the ghost could not enter it. He told the students that they were safe, and that the ghost would never be able to harm them again.

The students slowly made their way back to the school, grateful for their narrow escape. They never spoke of the ghost again, and the strange occurrences in the school stopped. But the students never forgot the terror that they had experienced that night, and they would always remember the old chapel as the place where they had found safety from the ghost.

Years passed, and the students graduated and went their separate ways. But they never forgot the small, old school in the countryside, and they always wondered if the ghost was still there, waiting for its next victims.
