The Goldfish

story

By Brian Wong Published 14 days ago 2 min read

Once upon a time, there was a little goldfish living in a quiet pond. The brightness and beauty of its shape set it apart from other fish. But this is no ordinary fish. It is said to have the power to grant the wishes of those it finds.

People in nearby villages believed the story of the goldfish. He had said before that if someone could catch it and do what he wanted, he could do it. However, no one could catch it. The fish are tough and easily slip through the fingers of those trying to catch them.

One day, a young boy named Miguel decided to go looking for goldfish. He heard a story from his grandfather about seeing a fish when he was a child and Miguel wanted to find it. He wove a net and came to the pond early in the morning.

Days and weeks passed and the goldfish was still missing. Miguel jumped into the icy water following the golden light that seemed to disappear among the algae. Sometimes he thought he saw it, but it was gone before he could catch it.

One night, while Miguel was sitting by the pond, tired and sad, a goldfish appeared from the bottom. Its light was brighter than before, as if its eyes held ancient secrets.

“What do you want, Miguel?” the goldfish asked quietly.

Miguel was silent. I have been dreaming of this moment for so long that I don’t know what to ask. But he finally found these words:

- I want my village to never starve or die of hunger again.

The goldfish lowered its head and disappeared into the golden light. The next day, the pond was full of fish and eggs. The villagers were amazed by the wealth and thanked Miguel for giving them what they wanted.

Since then, the goldfish have been very popular. He said he was swimming in part of the pool and waiting to be rescued. Although no one ever saw him again, the townspeople remembered his presence.

This is where the story of the lucky goldfish ends. The magician taught everyone who wants to change the world, as long as they have a kind heart.
