Introduction

While I am tempted to just go for the fifty to a hundred word challenge for this as it is twenty to eleven at night I have decided not to and just have a normal length story. This may imply that I am not clever enough to write an engaging story in a hundred words, but I have already done one so that should be enough.

This is from a prompt by Dharrsheena in her True Crime, Horror Story & Dark Poetry group which you can discover on Facebook via the link below.

This is the prompt.

Hopefully, this story will be nothing like what you expect although I have left a few initial clues in the music.

The Found Finger

I found a gold ring on the beach with my metal detector, because I am an avid detectorist, and although I was at a music festival, I brought my detector along in between sets.

The ring still had a severed finger attached. I picked it up and there was no blood, the finger had been there for a long time, but apparently, its owner hadn't really missed it.

I mean who loses a finger, and a gold ring, and doesn't notice, but there was a music festival on and a lot of wacky baccy about so who knows what could have happened.

I had a carrier bag and put the ring and finger in there with the intention of giving it in at the police station. The police weren't interested so I tried the hospital and they were not interested at all. They said no one had reported a missing finger so I should take it home or dispose of it.

Two of the artists at the Festival had lost fingers, Dr John (Mac Rebbenack) and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, but those losses were in the past and this was now. I wasn't happy about taking the finger home, but I did have the gold ring so I could ditch the finger and sell the ring.

I said that as I got back to my room and I thought the finger moved. Just my imagination, it was a severed finger nothing more.

I stripped and lay on the bed because it was hot and immediately fell asleep.

I woke with a pain on my chest, the word "THIEF" had been scratched in broken skin and blood spelling out the criminal that I was for taking the ring, I assume. I could feel the finger scratching its way towards my throat and I became paralysed with fear.

I couldn't move my arms or legs as the finger was moving towards my mouth, which seemed to be its decided destination.

I couldn't even shout or scream, I was silenced by extreme fear,

It was a finger and I was a full human. I shouldn't be scared of a solitary wizened digit, but I couldn't move and it was coming for me.

It reached my mouth, forced it open and crept in over my tongue. It had decided I was a thief and had decided to punish me by choking me. I felt it enter my throat and I started to lose my breath. The finger seemed inordinately thick and filled my airway to stop my breathing.

I could breathe through my nose but my throat was filled with that horrible finger and I was getting no oxygen.

My consciousness was fading, I could not move, the finger said I was a thief but I could not argue or explain myself.

I felt oblivion take me, I had been fatally fingered.
