Who should be the villain for the Batman 2

The success of The Batman has led to fanfare excitement for the sequel and with the sequel already being confirmed it is no suprise that fans are already clamoring to detemrine who will be the main antagonist for the caped crusader.

1. The Penguin

Colin Farrell's Penguin

It is clear that the roles of characters like Barry Keoghan's Joker and Colin Farrell's Penguin will be returning and whether they will be more prominent is remained to be seen. However, with the confirmation of an HBO series focusing on the Penguin, it will not be suprising or disappointing to see a larger focus on this character. This portrayal of the Penguin has been shown to be a fan favourite and any more of him on the big screen is certainly welcome.

2. The Joker

Barry Keoghan's the Joker

Barry Keoghan's Joker's limited appearance in the first Batman movie certianly left fans excited and waiting for more. The Joker is Batman's most popular villain and is always a favourite on the big screen. However, a potential saturation of the villain along with the benefits of providing him with a bigger role down the line may have its benefits.

3. Two Face

Jake Gyllenhaal's Two Face

Two Face has always been a prominent villain in the Batman universe, already appearing twice on the big screen. With Gotham already set to have a criminal uprising due to the death of Carmine Falcone, Harvey Dent's role in cleaning up the city can perfectly fit into the current state of Gotham City thus leading to an interesting take on Two Face himself. Jake Gyllenhaal's acting range can bring a dark, gritty and immersive take on this character.

Honourable Mentions: Oscar Isaac, Idris Elba, and John Hamm

4. Bane

Benicio del Toro's Bane

Bane is another Batman favourite with two prior movie portrayals. As the only villain to have broken the Batman, Bane can bring the Batman to new levels to overcome. Additionally, Bane's super human strength can act as a smooth transition to the more supernatural villains down the line such as Clay Face or Man-Bat. Benicio del Toro can be perfect for this role not only because of his striking resemblance to the character but due to his intimiadatin acting ability showcased in movies like Sicario.

Honourable Mentions: Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem

5. Mr. Freeze

Mads Mikkelsen's Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze although with a previous unsuccessful big screen portrayal is actually a favourite for director Matt Reeves who has expressed excitement about taking on the villainous scientist. His dark story can perfectly fit into the Batman universe and can act as an interesting counter to Robert Pattinson's Batman. Mads Mikkelsen can bring an interesting and chilling take on the role as showcased in the Hannibal series.

Honourable Mentions: Bryan Cranston, Mark Strong and Giancarlo Esposito

6. Scarecrow

Rami Malek's Scarecrow

Scarecrow can bring out the best from the Batman with both of them using the same weapon as fear. Bringing out Batman's biggest fears can provide an intense psychological take on the Caped Crusader. Rami Malek can provide an interesting take on this character especially based on his previous roles in movies like No Time to Die.
