The Aquarium

Be careful who you ask.

There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, “What the hell is water?”

The younger of the two fish named Sam says hmmm, I think we heard him wrong he must have meant otter. We’ve had a few lately trying to build a Dam to create a home. Otters are good swimmers and builders. They love the water almost as much as us fish but I don’t like how they block off our waterways so we can’t enjoy the full array of area.

The older of the two fish named Brittany says, that doesn’t sound right. I don’t think he was asking about the Otters. I think he was talking about Sarah the hoarder. I think he wanted to know if she’s still packing every shell and rock into that crustacean home she has. You know we are all concerned that she is becoming a little too elusive and not throwing anything away she has made that home of hers a hot mess.

A tiny Krill has been swimming near by the entire time without being noticed. That’s not what he said at all.. He asked how’s the border? You know the southern part of our waterways have been invaded by humans and a border was created so we don’t end up on some humans plate for what we call a nightmare and they call dinner. The border isn’t working that well.

Another tiny fish swims close and says you all have this all wrong. I think he mistook who you were and thought you were Veronica. Her daughter just had a nasty encounter with a hook but she got away. The fish had to be asking about your daughter. That poor young fish of Veronica is having an awful time healing and the nightmares have kept most of the area up with the screams.

A young squid swims by and says you all have it all wrong. They asked about the slaughter. It was so sad. A fisherman group came in and caught all the pretty fish with the blue gills. They dropped this strange looking string that the fish couldn’t seem to get out of and then pulled them into the area above the blue. I feel so bad for them and recorded it in our history.

At this time the two fish were starting to have quit a group. They had several fish, a krill, and a squid all trying to figure out what this word water might mean or if they just heard it wrong. A tiny seahorse came up who had been swimming along them the whole time. I’m sorry to tell you all but the fish said water. I don’t know what water is but I have very good hearing and that was the word used.

The group talked amongst themselves and agreed that maybe they didn’t know what the word meant. They did hear water but had no idea what the heck water really was. They decided to go and seek the advice of the wise octopus Hannah. She wasn’t the nicest but she was the wisest and oldest around.

Sam and Brittany went forward to the cave of the Octopus. The others kept their distance because Hannah could at times be irrational, especially if woken from a nap. The two young fish carefully entered and said. Please oh wise Octopus we have to know what the word water means. We were asked early today and can not find anyone wise enough to tell us its meaning.

The Octopus had just woken from a nap and seemed irritated by the question. Come closer so that I can give you my answer. When the two fish got closer and vortex of water sucked them into the octopus's mouth. Water is what you swim and live in, silly fools but now I’m afraid you don’t have to worry about that anymore as you have now become my lunch.
