Introduction

This is another wonderful image shared by The Enchanted Booklet on Facebook here:

"The Haunted House" by Thomas Hood can be read here:

This is my take on this wonderful picture.

The music is "Time to Ring Some Changes" by Dave Swarbrick and Simon Nicol. Listen to it and you will know why I included it.

Taken Back

The mansion was very grand in its day, but those times are long one. The family are no more and no one stayed when they left.

The iron gates are now broken and a crane stands in the pool which now covers the entrance road to the mansion. The house still look imposing but the roof is now falling in, and nature has started to claim the site back for itself.

No human has lived there for many years, just rats and squirrels, but many say there are ghosts. Is it haunted by the ones from the past?

The gardens are now overgrown, and encroaching into what was once palatial. There are no locked doors or windows, doors splintered, locks rusted, glass shattered, the building is dying and there is no one here wanting to tend it back to health.

So look on this edifice while it it still standing, before the plaster holding the bricks together is powdered by the tendrils of time, and the walls come tumbing down to the ground, but will anyone be here to see that happen?

This building has been taken back by nature and in the future there will be bushes and trees and wildlife when the walls fall and the ghosts have nowhere to go.
