Endangered
The air is sucked out of my lungs and it doesn’t feel enough to simply breathe anymore. “No.” I whisper in a half daze. “No this….this isn’t…I’m sorry, you have me confused with someone else.” His face falls and I have never seen someone’s eyes reflect the hardness of diamond quite the way his are currently showing now. It’s oddly mesmerizing and I can’t help but gaze into them.

What is love?
What is love? I never was the type of guy to ever be in a relationship or let alone love a woman like she should be loved. I was the type of guy that exalted the crave of impressing the ladies with my swag and of course my great looks. Have you ever heard the saying your grandmother or mother used to say, “ He is such a heartbreaker”. Well, I was definitely a heartbreaker. First year at Grambling State University, I can already count on my fingers on how many girlfriends I had throughout my freshman year in college. Sophomore year, I can admit I was a little easy on the ladies, I didn't press too hard only because of a hard break up I had with my last girlfriend. It was bad. I mean to her it was, but to me it was like “Next” please. Lisa. Lisa was cool when we first met but it seems like she got too comfortable too fast and started to look nerdy with the glasses she wore all the time. Lisa was pretty, and pretty geeky. I couldn't let her ruin my reputation here at the Gram house. So I had to break up with her letting her know it is not going to work out like how she wanted it to and plus I had my whole life to live, who's to say I wanted to be all lovey dovey. Her Major was in Business and she never used to like going to parties or even go out on the town because she was always in the darn library 24/7, what kind of life is that? And how is she treating me like I am not important. I couldn't bear the fact that she chose school work over me , I mean it's not like we live together, a little time won't hurt , right? Clearly I didn't get what I wanted so it was over. She cried, begged and pleaded not to break up with her. She gave me a thousand explanations on why I shouldn't leave her lonely. Ever watch Charlie Brown the cartoon whereas everytime the teacher speaks to the children, all we hear is, “Wamp, Wamp, Wamp, Wamp, Wamp”, Well that is exactly how Lisa was sounding. I began to part ways with Lisa when she yelled out “You are going to regret not being patient with me”. I looked back at her and laughed and replied “ Yeah, right Lisa”. She was right. I should never have laughed that day. Junior year in college, Mindset changed. Met up with my greek brothers to play catch up and to see how their summer vacation went. As we all chit chat over our summer vacation, My brother tapped me on my shoulder and said “Aye, Bruh”, isn't that Lisa with Tyler Viega”? Tyler Viega is a Grambling State University Football Star. He plays Quarterback and he is very good at it. I grew up with Tyler Viega and he knew Lisa is mine, well she was mine. But I thought to myself, is this dude being funny or just plain cocky? And what is Lisa doing with him? He is the biggest goofball of them all. I started feeling some type of way. Then I realized that I was the Eye Candy at the campus and I can get any lady that I wished to have. They proceeded to walk by the Greek Brothers and I. Tyler Viega walked passed and nodded his head, and Lisa holding on to his waist, walked passed and smiled. In shock, I am staring at them both as they slowly walk pass in seeming to be in a rhythmic motion. Lisa is sharp today. What has gotten into her? Her walk and her smile is brighter than before. I noticed she doesn't have her glasses on. Her hair is bone straight flowing effortlessly as the wind glides through the strands of her hair, She is looking very goddess, and I miss every bit of her. What did I do? I mean what did she do to me? I am sad. I want her back. Why wasn’t I patient enough? I pondered in my mind how I would fix things between me and Lisa, when my brother Tod tapped me on my shoulder once again and said “ hey bruh, pick up your jaw”. The crew burst in laughter as they knew that Lisa and I had a thing back in sophomore year. I can admit I thought I would never feel this way about a girl. I am a ladies man, the ladies want me. But now I knew what love was. Love is blind. Love is not perfect. Love is patient. Love is kind. Lisa was everything that any man should ever want when it comes to loving a woman the way she is. Being patient. It wasn't that She was geeky, but she was determined. Her appearance embarrassed me from my own attraction and the attention that I craved. I tried reaching out to lisa. She never responded. As I walk the campus halls to attend my classes, I always pass her up and say “Hi, Lisa”, she walks straight past me like I am nothing, like she never knew me. Damn, I really hurt this girl without even knowing. I was blind. Senior year. Fall semester, after summer vacation, it is time for them classes again. I am back and better. I feel refreshed. Meet up with greek brothers on the quad per usual for updates. Before I could even greet my brothers, they all ran up to me in such a hurry. Tod and Tamyrn said “ Lisa and Tyler are getting married right after graduation”. Immediately I said “ Good for them, I am actually happy for them”. In reality my heart is crushed. As soon as I thought I was over things, and back and better, boom, there goes my heart. Sunken into the ground. Remember I was that guy who craved attraction and attention. I was the ladies' man. Now look at me. Karma came back and ate me. Lisa did say “You’re going to regret for never being patient”. Congratulations Lisa, I am so sorry we didn't even make it.

Star Screech
You’d think being the son of a famous scientist would be full of flashing cameras, models, and overall respect, right? I thought so too. It’s anything but glamorous, let me tell you. During the week I live in an apartment and drive myself to school. It’s also where my dad thinks I am most of the time: sitting around doing homework like a good boy. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I busy myself with nightly activities that involve getting into trouble. Don’t worry, though, I’ve never been caught. And I don’t plan on doing so any time soon.

Don't Fall in Love With Me:
Oki Crow has always wanted to live off the grid. It’s a thought that came to him in his teens, after learning there was such a thing, he became obsessed with the idea. After college, perhaps, he can begin building his own home out of papercrete, on Raspberry Island, with his dogs and a boat. This would be the dream for him, and he’s already begun making it a reality. It’s easy enough to make papercrete, and it’s a great option if you’re on a budget. Oki has been saving up; he’s determined once he gets his mind set on something, and he hates being wasteful. Unfortunately, this opinion isn’t shared by much of the human race, and that’s why the planet is becoming uninhabitable. Oki doesn’t have a lot of goals in life. He doesn’t care to finish school, or to get a job, or to make friends. Living off the grid is his only desire, pretty much, and most people find this sad.

The girl on the TV.
Across the room, Sunshine stood proudly. Her hair was dark brown, falling just below her shoulders in messy waves. She wore a flowy dress with loud, obnoxious patterns that looked hand sewn together. It was the type of dress you’d see on the back clearance rack in a thrift store that no one wanted. As ugly as the dress was, it complimented the woman greatly. There was folk music playing in the distant room and Sunshine was lulling the melody while she swayed back and forth in front of the small kitchen sink. The dishes clanked in the ceramic bowl; it was the only noise that distracted her from the music until a child’s laughter came bellowing into the kitchen.

Do Not Press
“Open the door you coward!” “Not a chance…you all need to calm down!” Cries from the crowded carriage got louder and increasingly desperate, “Open it right now!” “Why aren’t we slowing down?” “Tell us what’s happening!” “If he doesn’t open that door, I’ll break it down!” More and more people were trying to push their way forward.
