Bullet
The first problem was waking up in bed. It had been a beautiful morning while he waited in line for the bus. Will was expecting to take a very short nap before getting back to work. But he would also have to call them. That was the deal. Family is family, and we don’t get to choose them, do we? That was his thought as he put his knapsack on the floor, closed his eyes, and let the articulated city bus rock him gently into sleep in his seat.

One Last Mission
It has been a long, tiring day at the office. Running diagnostics for security systems can be tedious at best, but it sure beats Hell Week by a mile. Fortunately, by tomorrow I won’t have to use public transportation much longer. I’m slated to pick up the Chevy Suburban that my wife, Camila, and I picked out for our growing family. As if the stars aligned, my phone is ringing and I answer swiftly,

Endless Love
A second set of knocks proceeded, this time more slowly. A low voice came from the other side, and Lyla froze. “Hey, Lyla, I thought you should know, in nine months, you’re mine again,” Clark growled from the other side of the door. Lyla grabbed her bra and underwear and pulled them on as she crossed her room in haste. She pulled the door open, not caring if Clark saw her naked since he already had.

At the End of the Day
KILOMETRE 23,866 — She was moving. That much was certain. Her body vibrated to the rhythm of the room and a hum was in her ears. She tried to push herself onto her elbows, then up onto her palms, but her waist felt like it was locked at its hinges. A thin, white sheet taped her body to the bed beneath her. She had to kick until it came free from under the mattress, her head throbbing as she sat up.

Chapter Five: Here We Go Again

The Algum Tree
A deafening ring punctured the inner depths of my subconscious. I initially mistook it for screams. The universe unfolded as I awoke. Beads of sweat descended my forehead and fell into my eyes. I closed them. The ringing was overtaken by a loud, consistent bang, as if large chains were falling in sequence. We were moving fast. It was dark, the only visible light came through a small hole near the top of the train car.

Runaway Train
image Jasper Montague blinked. Then he blinked again, this time rapidly and repeatedly. It didn’t change a thing. He still couldn’t quite fathom his surroundings. He looked around for his friends and saw all three sprawled on the floor, unconscious.

Bagged 1
I felt rumbling deep within my chest. Rushes of train wheels turning against metal flowed in and out of my ears. Something heavy hit the floor jolting me out of my sleep. I tried to move, but I was trapped somewhere. I started hitting the walls around me; they were thin and soft. Swallowing back my panic, I felt around the seams slowly, finding the back of a zipper. I clawed the zipper until it was open enough that I could see out of the corner. It was dark. I slowly unzipped the rest of the zipper and crawled out. Why the hell was I in a suitcase? Something clanged a few feet ahead of me. I sat up straight and looked around. Another massive suitcase had fallen over. Wait… where am I? I slowly stood up, trying to steady my feet. Am I moving? I blinked a few times trying to adjust my eyes to the darkness. There was sunlight flashing through the cracks in the room. I reached for my pocket to get out my phone to use as a flashlight. I felt my other pockets for my phone. Shit.

The Villains We Desperately Needed
Someone was breathing on my face. The realization of this unsettling thought jerked me awake with a start. The peaceful face of a boy, the spitting image of mine, swam into my vision. He had a shaggy mop of hair the color of silver, the ends of it almost completely covering his peacefully closed eyes. But even closed I knew the color of them. It was the same as mine - ocean blue.

The Night Train to Boise
“I wonder if it’s snowing in Boise,” Jenny murmured quietly to herself as the train passed by a line of snow topped trees. She shifted the bag in her lap. Partly because her leg was asleep, and partly to check and make sure it was still there.
