CYCLE III
When the CYCLE first began, our most precious resource vanished. With society unable to reproduce, the remaining children became more vulnerable than ever. Treated as commodities, they were bought and sold. The enormous desire to become a parent was prevalent, sought by the most affluent of social classes.

The Blank Expanse Between Worlds
Two paths diverged in a snowy wood. Perfect, tiny flakes gently drifted down from a slate-gray sky. Jack turned and saw his footprints gradually disappearing beneath the falling powder. Tall trees and impassable undergrowth surrounded him. The gleaming blankness of the ground ahead filled him with the same anticipation that a fresh sheet of paper once had. He remembered how full of potential each page had once seemed.

After We Ran
Back when I was 7, all I remember were the lights. The frantic steering of cars on the street and the traffic jam that had resulted. The rain that had started to paste itself onto windows, and of course, the crying out of cars driving passed our house faster than the speed limit. Away from the city.

Throwback Society
Hello to whoever is reading this, my name is Aleasha and I will be your guide into the wonderful world post-internet, you see ten years ago there was this huge power surge that knocked out the power to the whole world and when the power was brought back the internet was not. There were many attempts to bring the internet back but every attempt caused a new power outage so for the sake of everyone in the world the internet was just left alone. It was relatively easy for people to go back to not having the internet because of how new it really was, there were a few that needed a little more time to deal with the fact that didn’t have the internet to rely on anymore. Me being a 40-year-old woman can remember what both sides were like; I can remember having to go places to see and talk to people and I can also remember being able to video chat. As I said earlier I am here to help you to understand what life is like now that we are in a permanent throwback Thursday and how that has affected things like social media, dating, and even google.

Chill
Nestor fell back off of his stool, dropping his rod and smashing his had against the wood wall of the ice shanty. The "thing", whatever it was, slowly rose from the hole in the ice. Black, amorphous, pulsating it twisted and squirmed making it's way toward Nestor. He couldn't scream. Fear had stolen his voice. He felt as if he would swallow his tongue. The nightmarish entity became elongated and tentacle like before producing a hideous mouth full of grotesque teeth. Some seemed that of actual teeth, ivory and bone like. Though they were long, jagged and monstrous. The others looked of the amorphous black mass that revealed them. The mouth was circular in shape and made the same undulating movements as the rest of the being. Nestor noticed no eyes as has scanned the beast in horror and as he lie there still, it seemed to be searching for him by sound. What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? he repeated in his head.

Forests in Fantasy
Forests are almost an essential part of fantasy fiction. From the Greenwood of the Robin Hood legends, to Mirkwood and Fangorn in Middle Earth, the cool, richly scented shade of forests looms large across the genre. They are the home of monsters and wonders, the source of great magic and deadly enchantments. In the most cliché of examples, they are also home to elves, who will doubtless offer some useful bit of magic or knowledge to the hapless adventurer before sending them on their way.

In Unison: Chapter 1
The crickets and katydids were abnormally quiet tonight compared to previous days. Usually, after a long day of training the village's kids, I make my way out to this forest clearing on a hill far enough from the village to collect my thoughts. Tonight was one of those nights, and while I usually prefer to have the clearing for myself, I made an exception to have company. Especially for this one.
