Sci Fi
A Godless Eden
I shifted in my bed, grumbling a handful of groggy obscenities at the ruckus upstairs. It sounded like a plane was having a drunken affair with a steam engine, all roaring wind and bucking thuds. The damn tenants upstairs didn’t seem to understand how thin the floors were. If I so much as took a step out of bed, the grumpy prick below me would know. I knew this, of course, because every time I so much as tiptoed on a creaky board the bastard would scream like I'd just killed his cat.

A Mirrored World
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Space is vast, and space has only been a certain percentage explored. Its a scary place, or on a different viewpoint, one that is rife with endless ends of possibilities and discoveries. Its something that humans have been intrigued and fascinated by for centuries. In another endless bid to explore the realms of space, the crew of the Space Shuttle Frontier was heading towards a signal that was being produced from a nearby galaxy. The year is 2096, and at this point in the history of civilization, human beings are able to explore and travel at speeds and lengths that were previously thought to be impossible. Now, Space Shuttle flights were able to go near light speed, and now scientists had found ways for the passengers of the shuttles to be able to withstand the extreme speeds that the shuttles could go at, and also the amount of time the passengers would have to be on the shuttles.

A different perspective
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. That is not entirely true. For a brief moment you can. Let me take you back a few years to understand. The IUEA Corps have been in a prolonged war with our closest neighbors from the first planet ever discovered. We called it Proxima Centauri b. They had a name for it that we have yet been able to discover, simply because a., we haven't been able to decipher their language, and b., from pretty much our first encounter with them, we have been more or less at war. And we have seriously been outmatched since. Who exactly are them you ask? Them.. are a carbon-based life form, basically a half squid, half venus-fly trap appearing intelligent plant species that the scientists refer as Dendrocnidians Beta Proxima-something. We pilots just call them the Gympies.

Attack on the Beaumont
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. If death is virtually instantaneous, you won't be screaming anyway. Grace yanked her dagger from the spine of the crew member. She had learned long ago that the quickest and least painful way to kill was to thrust the blade between the atlas vertebrae and any of the other seven cervical vertebrae, preferably number one or two. What was his name? Did he have dreams of becoming a captain some day? Perhaps he was just trying to complete an internship for experience before working at a medical center. She didn’t know.

Theosian Cosmos. Runner-Up in New Worlds Challenge.
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. So they say. I can't quite determine which way is up. Or down, for that matter. I'm here, wherever here is. There was a moment when I thought the world was cold and dying, that I was in a frozen hell. Maybe it was a dream.

The Villains We Desperately Needed
Someone was breathing on my face. The realization of this unsettling thought jerked me awake with a start. The peaceful face of a boy, the spitting image of mine, swam into my vision. He had a shaggy mop of hair the color of silver, the ends of it almost completely covering his peacefully closed eyes. But even closed I knew the color of them. It was the same as mine - ocean blue.

The Train to Nowhere
“ O - M - G! What's happening?!?” I exclaimed. “This train has lost control! What do we do?!” A stubby woman shrieked. Just then the train stopped after riding for what felt like an hour, and then a boy who looked to be about ten or eleven opened the train door and said, “It’s opened… “
