The Target
“It’s fine. I know it. We know it.” Her voice was firm, almost angry. We both knew she was lying. I knew I wanted to have children with her on the grey afternoon when we met. I know that sounds insane or sexist or awful in some way or other, but I don’t care. It’s the strange truth. Everything she did, and a surprising number of the things she said, solved a problem I hadn’t seen until she solved it. I don’t know about you, but serious, powerful intelligence really turns me on. She was almost frighteningly attractive in the lab. Wearing so much protective equipment that she could have been almost anyone, or anything, under there, and yet…I mean, it wasn’t like I wanted to have sex with her right away or anything. I’m not even sure I actually want to have children with anyone, if I’m honest. The point is that some people seem to deserve to go on, in one form or another. If I could help her to carry on, forever, I would.

Moon in the Dark
Mountainous dunes of the sea angrily crashed all around. Not a crumb of land could be seen, only the torrent of nature’s wrath cascading. In the midst of the cacophony wavered a man who was without coat and hat. His sleeves flapped at his forearms. His hair danced a terminal gallop as his face shrunk and stretched. The man gripped the bars of his small craft as if they were some salvation.

8.2 Seconds
They say it takes 8.2 seconds for a guy to fall in love, and I’m sure that they were thinkin’ about moments like this when them guys did their researchin’ and studyin’ of the topic of love. And I was in love. I knew that this was just another jam on the highway – every damn Monday like this – but I guess the stars aligned or somethin’ and I got a glimpse of her. It was a nice way to start off’n the day.

Gossamer. Top Story - April 2024.
"Murray! Wake up!" He loved that period between waking and dreaming. To him, it was like entering another dimension; more of a dreamscape than dreaming itself. There was an otherness to it that he wanted to grasp and yet deeply respected the fact that it could never be his totally. This is what gossamer was; flighty and light, a wisp of smokiness, an idea suggested but not fully revealed, a slit in cloth, a copse in the wood.
