Love
Love on a Chain. Content Warning.
Do you know what it’s like to be ignored? I’m not talking like trying to flag down a busy bartender when you clearly have had too much to drink and should probably be shut off. I mean intentionally, maliciously ignored. When your existence is only valid when it’s fulfilling a need for someone else. I’ve spent most of my marriage waiting for affection, for attention, for acceptance. I am the forgotten dog that is chained to a weathered dog box in the backyard. I spend my days tethered to my own thoughts - quiet, small, and invisible. I have been reduced to waiting for scraps to be thrown my way or my bowl to be filled. Occasionally I get the luxury of being freed from my prison, but it’s only when I can be of use - like a dog putting up gamebirds for his shotgun toting master or providing some company when he is feeling lonely. Those small glimmers break up the monotony and silence that fill most of my days, but when my purpose has been served, it’s back to my forgotten enclosure I go.

Leading Lady
She could feel the load lifting. This year had been, in many ways, a challenging one. Freedom was within reach and yet... She sat and thought. It was still dark outside and the kitchen was quiet. Only the ticking of the clock and the creak of the house, as warmth suffused its bones, were keeping her company. It wasn't always like this but holidays brought these moments of early solitude where teenagers can sleep without alarm and husbands can rest instead of rushing out into cold air for early trains.

a visit via dream
Walking into my family's trailer, I smiled as I counted all my brothers; laughing, wrestling, drinking soda and beer and just enjoying each other’s company. My nieces were all spread out in the room, watching the window as it snowed large dry flakes. With how it stuck to the ledge, they were grinning as we were getting ready to be snowed in. Despite the cold outside, inside the trailer was warm. Bobbing and weaving through all the cheerful people, I found my spot to rest.

Adventures of Oahron (prologue)
Preface This story is based off of the starting point of a sci-fi fantasy war story I wrote some years ago. I am taking the beginning portion of an early draft of my book and splitting it into short stories (probably 3 short stories) based off of my main character Oahron in his early childhood. This is an ongoing draft and may be a bit jagged and in need of editing. Please show support for this project to help support a bigger work based on these promotional stories I will be sharing freely online.

The Present. Top Story - December 2024.
Jackie Chase is getting dressed up for the Christmas party at his sister’s house which starts in the next hour. “Boy I cannot wait to get my hand, or my fork and spoon into some of that banana pudding Rudy cooked” Jackie thought out loud. He then grabbed his phone, the charger to go with it and his car keys as he prepared to head out the door.
