The Housemaid's Secret
Chapter 1 It was a beautiful summer day in the small town of Millbrook, where the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. Anna was walking down the street, carrying a small bag of groceries, on her way back to the house where she worked as a housemaid. She had been working there for several months now and had grown accustomed to the family's routine. However, she had a secret that she had been keeping from them ever since she started working there.

Open the Gate
Gateway Systems. The leaders in innovation of science, of communications, of humanity. That’s what my grandchildren called it. But the square building that reached into the sky didn’t impress me any more than the other walls I’d seen constructed in my lifetime.

The Surprise Visit
I woke up groggy from a deep, but restful slumber. You know, the kind where we wake up and don’t quite know what day it is? Yes – that sort of slumber. As I sat up and rubbed my eyes to properly see, I noticed it was a dark, overcast morning. Had there not been any clouds, I probably would’ve noticed the reddish blue sky that still lingered from this morning’s dawn. As I sat in bed, mesmerized by the outside world, I heard a knock on the door. “Knock, knock, knock” came the sound – three rather rapid knocks on the door, as if in a hurry. I began to get out of bed when my still awakening senses were greeted by another rapid series of three knocks. “Knock, knock, knock.”

Date Justice
[Write a fiction story about a time traveler who tries to alter a historical event.] Natalia couldn’t remember how long she had been saving to finally afford to rent the time machine. She only had until the end of the month before she had to return the device, yet it had already been a week in her possession and she still hadn’t made her first time-jump. She was curled on the couch of her cozy Brooklyn apartment with a globe on her coffee table for ideas of where (and when) to go. Her planner was open to the current month, February, which happened to be her Birthday month, and why she had rented the device. But now, looking at the calendar, Natalia was suddenly furious. How could she not have taken into consideration that she rented the time machine during the shortest month of the year? A whole two to three days shorter than any other month. She would have to call the company to check if she could keep it for a full 30 days – unless… She frantically reached for the time machine, adjusted the dials, pressed the button, and held her breath.

The Stranger of Pernambuco
In the sleepy town of Pernambuco, life was a languid affair, with little to disturb the placid rhythms of the day. The people there were simple folk, hardworking and honest, but they lived in poverty and struggled to make ends meet. They worked long hours in the fields, tending to the crops of sugarcane and cotton that stretched as far as the eye could see, and they had little to look forward to but the promise of another day of toil.
