The Battle of Corinth in 146 BC was a significant military conflict that marked the end of the Achaean League and the final destruction of Greek city-state independence. The battle took place near the city of Corinth in southern Greece and was fought between the Roman Republic and the combined forces of the Achaean League and other Greek city-states. The Achaean League was a loose federation of Greek city-states that had been formed to resist Macedonian domination in the region. However, by the mid-2nd century BC, the League had come under the influence of Rome, which was expanding its power and influence in the Mediterranean world. In 146 BC, the Achaean League declared war on Rome, hoping to regain its independence. The Romans responded by sending a large army under the command of the consul Lucius Mummius to Greece. The Roman force was well-equipped and well-trained, and it quickly advanced into the heart of the Achaean League's territory. The two sides met in battle near Corinth, and despite the valiant efforts of the Greek defenders, the Romans emerged victorious. The city of Corinth was sacked and burned, and many of its inhabitants were killed or enslaved. The Battle of Corinth marked the end of Greek city-state independence and the beginning of Roman domination in the region. The Achaean League was dissolved, and many of the remaining Greek city-states were incorporated into the Roman province of Achaea. The Roman victory also had wider implications, as it demonstrated Rome's military power and helped to establish its dominance in the Mediterranean world. The Battle of Corinth is often seen as a turning point in Greek history, as it marked the end of the Hellenistic period and the beginning of the Roman era in the region.

The Love of Helen and Paris 1788 by Jacques-Louis David
While the story does not hold up for long as a love story: Helen is married to Menelaus, whom she chosen as a husband so there is no prospect that she was forced into the union, and runs off with the Trojan prince. When Paris dies, instead of returning home, she marries his brother: and then promptly betrays him to Menelaus, who after all those shenanigans was quite happy to take his flighty bride home, where upon they settled down and lived happily, or so it is assumed, ever after! Perhaps the real love story is there after all... Whatever the story was, Jacques-Louis David chose to immortalise the two lovers together and clearly besotted with one another. Presumably Paris has just sung of his love for the beautiful Helen, judging by the lyre that sits on one thigh, still held in one hand, while the other holds Helen's arm, perhaps in the moments leading up to intimacy – Paris is seat on a sumptuous stool, naked, aside from his sandals and a red hat, with just the lyre's ribbons trailing into just the right place to retain his modesty. While his legs are turned almost fully away from Helen, his torso and upper body are swivelled towards her, as she leans on his back, almost swooning into him, it seems. A bed is immediately behind the couple, the covers invitingly draped, while behind the bed seems to be a large canvas, covered with a blue cloth. More distantly still, and giving the impression of a lot of space, the ceiling rises high, white over pale blue walls, while behind the covered canvas stands a small temple decorated with caryatids (pillars carved into the shape of women). The whole almost gives the impression that the two have sneaked into a disused spare room, in a large mansion or palace, in order to carve out some alone time: fitting with the scandalous nature of their relationship. The painting is full of symbolism much of it aimed at the Comte d'Artois who would – presumably – have been able to understand exactly which elements were aimed at him and why! But even without full understanding of all the elements, David's painting holds all the elements that were beginning to achieve him a great deal of fame and praise: his paintings tell their stories simply with little unnecessary background clutter, making heavy use of symbolism and striving for realism in capturing the physique, expressions and behaviour of his subjects. David learned this from his second teacher: Joseph-Marie Vien who praised classical simplicity of narrative combined with richness of perfectly applied technique. David learned much over his long and exciting life, and was delighted to pass on this knowledge, with many students over the course of his lifetime: the most famous of these was Jean-August-Dominique Ingres, but he had up to fifty pupils at once at his peak, and continued teaching almost up to his death. The Loves of Paris and Helen is an immense painting, oil on canvas, measuring 1.81m x 1.46m. It can be found in Room 702 of the Louvre where his love-hate relationship with the Royal Academy played out, when that noble institution was based at that location.

Hi my name is Jeremy Smolden, and I’m back in time to fill you in about my time on trying to master alter the history books on telling you my trying take on surging the Titanic the love part that has to do with me. Trying to gain credibility from life on the Titanic was every guys dream. You see it was early 1900’s this took place on the most beautiful ship and me and my friends were super excited to travel afar, knowing we were possible but dirt poor! What great glory we dreamt about getting on one day. This was our time to save the day! Come on John so we strolled on. There were two of us. Okay okay make it three, and we d just seen a girl. Yeah she was pretty. So was how much we become heroes especially me once I found out later how I could alter this history of time with Titanic you’ll find out if it works later on. Time was all I had and I know love was either going to be earlier on or later. My parents worked for a smaller shipping company lessersbof the titanic. Once they found out about me meeting this girl Marilyn. They’d be spiked. One day I wanted to make it with that girl though. I hope she knows. She’s that special to me. Marilyn came over one day to talk, but like anything I knew I wouldn’t be around forever. So once I got aboard she was the first thing I wanted to see. A special someone. The kind of girl I was going to get romantic with, becaus so know with anything she was an eternal heart of survival something that I don’t think I have the guts to try out! It was in her heart. “ Hey Marilyn are you excited.” Yeah who are you??????Im not really well known see my mother is Susan and father Mike. Who are you smiley? I’m no other than Jeremy Smolden! And back in time, boyyy have I got the gotta for you! we’ll my name is Marilyn and I have the gotta for you too! That was day- night we fell in love and life would never be the same again. How’s you even get on. My parents worked they’re buts off to provide and they chose little me to board. Glad you could be my lady. Yeah me too! It’s about time right! Her heart of the ocean had fell I the sea, but I didn’t worry about it neither did she. My heart belongs to Marilyn and I hope you all know tonight cheers! CHEERS. Going back in time was the specialist day of my life. She was just the most gorgeous girl around. We ended up kissing and making love and thought about our lives together and how much we wanted a family one day! Anytime you get a chance to be with someone do take it! Despite entitlement we loved one another soooo much that,we said one day we’d tell of our altered story on historic time in life. Although my parents were really wealthy and Jeremy’s were dirt poor, we still managed to see one another in life and love. Altering the story, making it short they tried to find us to kill us. We had snuck in a room locked it, made a promise with one another and slide a rose on the door, because we were prepared to die and set the rest of our lives up for closure, for possibly the next person to find. Or Generation! I know it was unsafe but love only had a chance to happened once!
