THE QUEEN VANISH
The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. It began at dawn when the sun stretched its golden fingers across the pale mist that clung to the surface of the water. It was as if the very earth had taken a breath—silent, still, and strange. The fishermen who stood at the river’s edge, mending their nets, stared in disbelief as the water reversed its course. The flow that had sustained their village for centuries, winding its way through the valley, now retreated into the hills from which it had come.

Second Fantasy Prologue . AI-Generated.
The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. The quick current of the Great Bend River paused, wavering for a minute as if debating what to do next, and then started flowing in the wrong direction—something no one in Willow Reach had ever seen before. The locals gathered by the riverbank, their mouths agape in terror as fish floundered helplessly on the rocks, swimming against their will.

A Monumental Task
Prologue The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. A few of us watched it happen from the Duke’s bow, but we were helpless to stop it. It came without warning, without even the beginnings of a whirlpool to alert us that there might be a problem, some kind of shift in the otherwise calm waters below. My body slammed against the prow while my mind was still registering the shock, saving me from the fate of so many, who went sprawling overboard with screams of surprise, and by the time I managed to get my feet under myself again, the ship had already begun to drift sideways. My stomach lurched along with it.
