Angel Wings and Death's Embrace
Madame Cybelle shuffled her deck of tarot cards, their edges were gilded but worn from years of use and handling. The fortune teller wore a thick veil that obscured her face but I pictured her in my head. I imagined her wise old face lined with wrinkles and her thin lips pressed in a hard line. Candles flickered around us casting shadows along the tent walls. My mind conjured images of terrifying creatures and shadow monsters coming to take me away as if I didn’t belong here but instead elsewhere. I swallowed nervously as I tried to clear my head of unpleasant thoughts but the silence made it hard. Madame Cybelle had not uttered a word since I stepped into her tent, into her world of fortunes and fates. Her deafening silence and the flickering candlelight gave one an unsettled feeling and I grew more and more anxious as the seconds ticked by.

Fate & Feathers
The bizarre bird had outlived everyone in the town for centuries, then again, it was sometimes difficult to separate fact from fiction when it came to Drudgeville’s most curious oddity. That hadn’t stopped me from trying though, I’d been just as obsessed with the myths and legends as I was with the facts, even before I inherited the huge Macaw and the minor celebrity that came with it.

A bird's secret
Everything around Alaura was so bright and beautiful. The air around her was warm and comfortable. She stared in awe as she walked along the rainforest glancing up into the trees and the rock side as blue, yellow, and red feathers filled the sky. A sense of security filled the young girl as she started to run through the forest as feathers began to sprout all over her body, her arms changing into wings as her body shrunk to the size of the rest of the macaws.

Fowl Language
Dew droplets on the highest branches shimmered in the rising sun, which soon evaporated into swirls of steam. As the western wind swept up the sand, the steam and wind circled in lazy funnels, disturbing nesting macaws and parrots. The woman marches down the hall like a hunter in the woods. She reaches the end of the hall to her personal party room, the smell of wine, beer, candles seep out. The Scent of Decaying Flowers
Everyone knew that the lady that lived in the house at the end of the street was a witch. Mothers would pull their children closer to their sides when they passed, and soldiers often lingered as though contemplating whether slaying this figure would bring peace to their village. On days where she ventured out into the forest to gather supplies for her potions, the roads into and out of Minara would be eerily silent and bare.
