The Last War of Dragons
“There weren’t always Dragons in the Valley.” A spectacular, spectral Dragon dove overhead and roared deafeningly, brilliant glittering flames shot from its mouth to rousing delights of the annual Heroes’ Festival far below it. Enari the Mage clasped his hands together with anticipation, a sea of tiny eyes affixed upon luminescent projections he puppeted in a graceful dance across dark gathered clouds of the distant storm.

The Dragons of Ethenia
My breath caught in my throat. He’s coming. What does that mean, and how did it appear in a book? I didn’t have time to contemplate the mechanics of a book that could change its text. The doors of the library were thrown open and a steward whose name I could never remember came rushing in.

Why did it have to be Dragons?
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. It was a mistake, actually. Simon Sullivan, the renowned wizard, promised the world something grand. We were dazzled when he regrew the forests that had burned down that really hot summer. We couldn’t believe when he saved the president from not one, but three assassination attempts. And we especially wouldn’t forget when brought back the extinct bumblebee species, saving us from losing almost all of our crops.

Tooth and Scale
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley.” Rurik sat in the shade of a hostel balcony, letting the crier’s speech float by. He tilted up the brim of his hat to inspect the man, then spat between his teeth. A typical city-dweller – not used to the realities of this new world.

Dragons of Mydoria
There weren't always dragons in the valley - specifically, the Mydo Valley. Against my better judgement, I summoned them. My name is Mistress Wizardess Laylawny. I earned my title through years of hard study, starting at the age of six, followed by two years of apprenticeship, and faithful service to Queen Shima.

Indented Souls and Eternal Dreams
There weren’t always dragons in the valley; and there weren’t always these nightmares in my mind. Rip-roaring flame engulfing the orchard green city I once recognized from a previous life. Some would say it was a dream, some would say it was untrue. It was forever destined to remain that way. Blackening of each and every soul in a shade that was hidden from their view. Why can I only see it? Why will it take an eternity to fade? Heat cooling with the expansion of an infinite universe where my consciousness connects every galaxy like dots on a page.

The Frozen Empire
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Those who lived in the Sunmarch thought they went extinct centuries ago, when the Snowfall covered the Empire. Others, more formally educated, believed the dragons abandoned their nesting grounds as the Meerandalese armies tried to expand beyond the enchanted winter. Either way, the Empire failed to outrun the curse and the dragons, like so many other creatures, disappeared. One more loss among many as the Snowfall ruthlessly blanketed each conquered nation brought under the Empire's mantle.
