The Hallowed Vessel
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Lita pondered to herself, they disappeared millennia ago. At least according to the old textbooks she’d read back home. But why? She didn’t have time to ponder long before a wave came crashing down upon her, flooding the deck for the moment, before running out of the gullies at the sides of the ship. The weather was certainly worsening.

Finding Valhalla
Finding Valhalla: Chapter 1 There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. It wasn’t until the Vikings disappeared that they began overtaking the land. No written or drawn out history depicting the Event has ever been found, only what the outside world speculates it to be. To the outside world, there aren’t dragons and the Vikings are still living peacefully. There is only one way to get to the Valley and no known way to escape. Any person willing and able to take the long journey, would travel to the end of the Earth and come to a crack between mountainous rocks. Once the crack is found, the traveler would have to take a dark, perilous fall through the riff. Any person with enough bravery to free fall into the unknown is surely worthy of landing in a world full of magic and wonder. A world where the Vikings roam freely with the magical creatures of the Valley’s realm. No human in the Earthly world has come across the riff, though many have tried. The promise of a peaceful land and it’s many unicorns, fairies and leprechauns is just one jump away. It was a utopia spoken of only in stories of magic told to children before bed. The story was changed from household to household but was always about the Vikings disappearing from Earth after finding the magical realm. The creatures that inhabit the Valley changed, but the constant was always that there were never dragons. Dragons have never been kind in children stories, the prince is always slaying one while it guards a princess waiting to be rescued. The fire breathing, villainous monsters are not usually creatures to soothe a child to sleep. One young girl was different, she would ask her father to tell her stories where the dragons were rescuing a damsel of a prince.

The Strange Behavior of Valley Dragons
The Strange Behavior of Valley Dragons: Mystery in the Skies above Kryss There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. That would probably surprise most people since this area is known as the Dragon Valley now. Long ago, it was called the Valley of the God’s Head. You can still see that the small mountain at the Western end has enormous holes that look a bit like eyes and a mouth.

Never do a favor for a wizard
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. They migrated, like giant stupid birds, so as long as you weren’t there during the two weeks the dragons stopped to eat everything in sight and leave great heaps of shit, Gorelin Vale was as safe and boring as it got.

The Dragon's Plight
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley, you know." Shakash suppressed a groan. Of course he knew there weren't always dragons in the Valley of Kivan. He'd only heard the story a million times since his hatching three centuries ago. It wasn't even that exciting of a tale. Voidships from Despar discovered the dragon's crumbling home on Isl Dava and brought them back to settle on their much larger island in the Vast. The Valley of Kivan was a large but isolated area similar to Isl Dava's geography, so there the dragons stayed. The "exciting" part of the tale was that ever since leaving their home, the dragon immigrants could no longer shift between their humanoid and bestial forms.

Dragon Ryder
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. But that’s not where our story begins. First, I must tell you a story of a boy who came to a ranch to play behind a barn while his father tended horses. I must also tell you of a girl who lived in the house on the ranch where the barn stood. You see our story doesn’t start with dragons who haunt the sky above the valley. Our story begins in another valley or maybe the same one in a different time or a different universe where the valley exists simultaneously in a parallel space. In that valley far away from the one we are in now a boy who plays while his father works and a girl who is tired of having no one to play with at all will begin a tale of love, a battle of good and evil, and yes dragons.

A Necessary Sacrifice
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Yet the Empress’s Shadow had it on the very highest authority that one would be born here tonight. And it was her sacred duty, the last order of her doomed Empress, to ensure it never drew breath. To cut the tongues and extinguish the words that would, in a moment of misplaced conviction, carry the final name of her people from memory to terrible, irreversible reality.

Empires at Dawn
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Then there used to be countless. Now there are barely any left in the gargantuan cavity in the earth, covered in bright green grass and dotted with wild flowers growing in messy clusters. Sandwiched between two flat mountains that curved towards one another, like two crescent moons facing each other. Or a whole moon sliced in half by a bloated river. It sat deep in the grassy plains, days’ worth of travel outside the nearest empire, Oratta. One of the many new empires that grew atop the bones and ashes of an old one.

A Darkening Sky
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. There couldn’t be. Few knew what sort of valley this was and Sekra knew it was time to leave. She had lived longer than any in her flock and could see the signs few others would notice. And have the willpower few others could muster to move first. Bubbles shot up past her head again. Yes. It was time to go. Sekra rose her great bulk out of the steaming, mineral laden pool, disturbing large rocklike mounds as she dragged herself up onto the muddy bank and slowly stretched out her wings. She had grown stronger during her time here, and larger. Taller than the great oak from my homeland she mused while scratching off the hardy moss that had grown over one nostril. But along with her increased size came tight old skin and a deep hunger that was just beginning to wake.
