The Ruler of Reality: Flynt's Arrest (Chapter One)
There weren’t always dragons in the valley, but lots of things had changed since Cerunem Ropreglow came into power. Like the trolls of the Osrafuth Mountains moving north into the forests around the Lakefolk lands or the Yaftans fleeing Danselom.

Theodore's Skin
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Until I was ten, we raised wyverns. Before that it was griffins, but they were all gone long before I was born. When I was nine, we lost the wyverns to the turning. That was a bad year. Most of the ranches with mortgages were foreclosed. We owned our family’s ranch free and clear, but still there was no work to do, no money to spend, and nothing in the valley to spend it on. Businesses closed and people moved away. Late at night, when Ma and Pa thought I couldn’t hear, they talked about where we might have to go and what we’d do next.

One Dino Egg, Over Easy
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Matter of fact, there are so many now it’s hard to believe they weren’t always here. Thirty years ago, there was one little dragon egg uncovered and found in the Antarctic permafrost melts. The egg defrosted and two months later there was the cutest little female dragon you could ever imagine. With bird-like features, it was amazingly beautiful, yet foreign in it’s appearance. At twenty-four weeks, the feathers began to harden and turn to scales.

It’s going to be the death of me, I know it.
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley, however every couple of years there would be a winter that would bring out the frost from your breath, and everyone would know to be on their guard as the dragons would surely come. The city I’m in is small enough that everyone knows most people but not small enough that I can walk from the town centre to the suburbs without having to account for a hour and a half walk. Located in the North of America is a town surrounded by trees and mountains. This town is called Spokane. It’s been about two hundred years since there were any dragons to have existed actually and it was way before my time to know what it was like without them. From what I have read and watched from the classic Hollywood era of films before the world was introduced with dragons, night crawlers and the death pox; people considered most of the things we deal with now as dark myths told in folklore to symbolise something else. Now I live in an age where most people fear other aren’t people, that there are monsters disguised in the flesh of humans being able to copy the behaviour enough that it may fool you to your death. And yes death pox is a thing and it’s still not the worst thing out there.

The Fate of Mana
There weren't always dragons in the valley. They had once ruled the open sky, revered by man and beast alike. Dragons had been the guardians of Numera's sacred temples and were seen as symbols of the gods they served. That was in a time when the nine still ruled and the races of Numera were not on such tense terms.

An Outcast of Worlds
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. An eagle flies over a panoramic view as the sun’s rays beat down onto the parched fractured earth of the Valleys basin, its shadow falling on a brush of fine horse hair as it cautiously wipes away dust and rock, slowly revealing a fossil of one of the mass of skeletons protruding from the dry ground, bleached and eaten away. Upon excavation many of the fossils appeared like they were trying to crawl out of the earth, like that of the living dead; their distal phalanges, broken and chipped.

Mahoun Beithir
"There weren't always dragons in the valley. But when they came their arrival was fast and brutal. Born of fire and lightning with a taste for destruction, the dragons rained down their fury upon the thatched covered homes of the huddling Clansmen and their families without mercy. In a single, terrifying moment, everything was ablaze.
