A Stranger Among Us
My throat is dry, itchy, and scratchy after a long day of blowing hot smoke. See, I’m the mediator for all the creatures in the region, and today was a hectic day. I had many problems to solve. I tried to keep my cool, but a body can only take so much. So, before going through the forest, I decide to stop by the field of lavender to gather some for a relaxing cup of lavender tea. I put some lavender in my satchel and head for home.

Trapped
Deep within BloodHill Forest, where monsters of all types linger, the plants' murder, and the water boils, lives a fearsome 1000-year-old dragon. Corena is considered the mother of all dragons, The eldest known dragon to mankind, 100 feet tall and 70 feet long. Black scales with a red undertone as big as your head are believed to be sharp enough to kill a man. Claws longer than your body and her wit is as fast as a cheetah. Presumed dead, she went missing during the night of the great storm. The thunder shook the sky with a mighty rage, lightning seen from hundreds of miles, and the sea took life on the land. A scale was found in the town floating in the water found by a villager, all had assumed she was killed or left for a better place not ravaged by mother nature.

The sun hung low in the sky and the winds hummed a gloomy lullaby. It ruffled leaves from trees and feathers off crows, carrying with it the musky scent of the damp forest. The Forest of Zlatem held many secrets, some of which had been told in fairytales and legends passed down for centuries. Many of which, however, had yet to be unearthed.

The Scale of Famine
Rubacaus flew low over the pine and birch tree covered highlands near Venvolde. It was spring. The dampness and dew from the night transitioning into morning felt soft and refreshing on his scaly body. As the change of seasons dictated, there would be a meeting at the Draconus Council to discuss the old and the new. Rubacaus knew the humans would once again take up a majority of their conversation, given the circumstances. The resources of the surrounding area had not been plentiful in years. Several human societies had come forth to barter with the dragons; but with nothing to give, it was more of an attempted trade of words for resources.

Thick layers of white fog hovered above a decorative basket, swirling around in a dew moistened cloud rendering it invisible to the harsh unforgiving woods. Three year old Adira rubbed her eyes, yawning with contentment, under a blanket, tucked inside a basket, without a care in the world.

The Beast of Hollowing
A ring of death stood before the Beast, ash raining down from the pillars of smoke at the edges of the clearing. Tall posts, scorched but still erect, were driven into the ground at the border of the circle, each with a small figure tied to them. The figures, too young to be so still and quiet, faced inward toward a poorly assembled altar of stone. Upon the altar rested an even smaller figure.

The Bogfrog Cycle
It has been eleven years and the bogfrogs were finally grown. The realization did not fully settle on Menthe that morning, nor the next. The realization did not settle until a large frog unhinged its jaw and swallowed one of her cows. She had snapped up the bogfrog, taking care to crunch it before it shot its tongue down her throat and choked her. That’s how her nestmate died many years ago.
