Lost in Time: A Journey Through History
As I stepped through the shimmering portal, I felt a chill run down my spine. The ancient stone archway had been sitting in the center of the forest for as long as anyone could remember, but nobody had ever dared to enter it. Until now.

Unlikely Observer
Low-hanging branches whipped Ari’s skin, but he hardly noticed their harsh sting. His legs furiously pumped as he raced his bike down the woodland path. Tears left his sight blurry, but he knew the path like the back of his hand. A sharp turn ahead would have toppled another biker, but Ari leaned into the curve, shifted his weight effortlessly to bank the curve and kept speeding through the trees. A steep dip in the trail, a small wooden footbridge over the stream, and the final push up the embankment brought Ari safely to his sanctuary.

Blown Away
Carolina's eyes fluttered open. Her head throbbed. Something with jagged edges dug into her abdomen. She caught a breath and glanced down. It was a timber, as long as her toothpick legs, with splinters poking against her belly and digging into her ribs. Her heart pounded through her chest, but her vision was clearing. She was lying on a sea of timbers crammed onto the floor of what? A cave? Nothing she’d ever seen before. It had smooth tree limbs holding up the sides, yet the thinner limbs held no nests. How could any of her friends build a home in a tree like that?

The Blackened Glass
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. It was dangerous to watch, but I did it anyway. I loved the thrill of it all. The exhilaration I felt didn't compare to anything else. Of course, it had its downfalls. Maybe downfalls isn't a strong enough word. Destruction, devastation, now those two words describe it better. You know the old saying beauty is pain. Well, in this case, it's true. Although those clouds were magnificently beautiful, havoc reigned along with them.
