An Ally on an Island
When he saw the tail of the jet sink into the ocean, he knew that he would have to settle on the island for a while. The weather was still rough, but he was able to guide the parachute towards the breakers on the shore that already had some of the wreckage. With a quick flip, he fell forward onto the sand, detaching the parachute before the wind pulled him into the ocean. It caught on the rock that kept a wave off of him, flapping in the air as the sky darkened and rain pelted his uniform. Iris, Prince Don, and the Phoenix Feather Lantern, Part 1
A single sob escaped Prince Don's lips at the sight of his mother lying in bed, grey as stone, eyes fixed unseeing on the ceiling. Then he drew a deep solid breath, squared his shoulders, and nodded to his father, King Les Ashe, who was standing next to the bed. College students of all ages filled the space, surrounded by simple decorations strewn across the room. In one corner, a special attraction beckoned attendees—an elegantly dressed fortune teller stationed at a circular table. Cloaked in maroon linen, the table showcased a lavender-colored crystal ball, as she read palms and revealed insights with tarot cards.
