Adventure
Dragons of Zoe Valley
There weren't always dragons in the valley. In fact, they have come rather recently – and we still don’t know what they want. After an initial conversation – although it was more of a wordless understanding – between me and the dragon-chief Raimil, two dozen or so of them had settled on the hilltops of the Ozern mountain range. Apart from a few small misunderstandings with flocks, dealings have been peaceful. I did not think it wise to force anything upon the dragons, and, seeing as they promised us no harm, we have contented to set up an observational outpost. I can’t help but wonder if all this is related to what King Joseph foresaw before he left us. As the prophecy goes:

Everard's Tale
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. This much Prince Haiden knew. For one, it was warmer than they preferred. The dragons were believed to spend the bulk of their time farther north near the Pruin Peaks. There, the fire that burned in their bellies and coursed through their veins was tempered by the frosted air; the combination was said to keep them at their most comfortable, and most alert. It was also believed that the Valley was confining for the dragons. An expanse of fields, marshes, and low forests surrounded steep slopes was like an enlarged arena –– and while no dragons alive today had ever been forced into combat for sport, they, like men, inherited the horror stories of their ancestors.

Dragons and Dragonflies
“There weren’t always dragons in the Valley.” Walker jerked his head up and dug his finger into his tickled ear. Then he turned to face the intruder who had aroused him with his buzzing whisper. It was a large black dragonfly with white-tipped wings which moved so quickly they didn’t appear to be moving at all. Walker stared intently at him and waited for him to speak again.

On Dragon's Wings
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley.” That’s the line, the one line that starts a million conversations. No matter where you are, a tavern, a street vendor’s stall or sitting around a campfire, whenever the subject of dragons comes up that’s the line everyone always starts with. But is that truly the case? I mean, how do we know there weren’t always dragons in the valley? Not like any of us can remember that far back, not that there are any living humans who were alive back then to remember. The only ones who can are the dragons themselves since they live nigh on forever; not that any of the really old ones are around and talking. Oh I’m sure they’re still alive somewhere - probably lounging about without a care in the world while the rest of us are struggling to survive til the next day.

Looking for Afkar
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Many moons ago Kiblots inhabited the flourishing terrains of Eazeville. Thriving in an oasis with the freshest water full of orange whale fish and luscious native berries, these little purple intellects traded with the Gorians— a strong tribe living around the perimeters of the valley—in exchange for defense from the Mantlers.

Soul Tribes
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley” my sister Tisha mumbled under her breath. “Huh? Girl what are you talking about? And what does that have to do with me seeing actual fairies or whatever those little flying creatures were?!” “Maggie you remember growing up… mom would tell us stories about how the world is full if magic and that our family is a very important apart of that world. She told us that one day when we least expected it it would be shown us.” Tisha always believed in the fairytale world and I did too when were little kids but I’m 15 now and she is 11; we are getting a little old for those stories….so I thought. “Tisha I still don’t understand the dragon valley thing…. What does dragons flying in the valley have to do with magic or the things that I saw?” “Well Maggie if you remember correctly, mom told us that there’s always magic all around us. But we can’t see it, remember she said there could be dragons flying around us right now, but mankind has made us forget over the years where we came from. And all I’m saying now Maggie is that maybe it’s time for us to fulfill our destiny and really figure out where we came from and what part was supposed to play and discovering this magical world.” I just shook my head and laughed until Tisha that reminded me so much of mom. But what I could tell Tisha was that when mom died all the magic that I had in me died with her. My World went dark the day I found out our mother was gone. I love Tisha and I don’t wanna take the magic and light away from her so I continue indulge her fantasies.
