"There weren't always dragons in the valley" explained Jeffrey's grandpa. As they sat on the front porch made from an old growth redwood tree. The steam from the valley floor was gracefully rising up to the sky on this mild spring morning

"Tell me more! Tell me more Gippy!" excitingly Jeffrey clammered, as a newly hatched fledgling dragon clumsily landed on the deck, scampering over to the bowl of water left out for their dog, Rusty.

"Gippy", is short for grandpa. Jeffrey has called him that ever since he was 2 years old. He had a hard time saying grandpa, so the name stuck. Now 11, he has short red hair and wears thick "coke" bottle glasses with wire frames. His thirst for knowledge is undeniable.

"It all started after we came across some very odd looking stones. They were oblonged shape with a very rough surface, bigger than a small car I suppose" said Gippy.

"Wow!! were they heavy?" asked Jeffrey.

"Extremely heavy. We found them after we dug up the stump that was leftover from the tree that was used to build this house and the very deck we are sitting on" mused Gippy with a slight grin.

"Holy cow!! So we live in a tree house?" asked Jeffrey, with a very excited tone in his voice.

"Well, I suppose we do!" Gippy chuckled, stroking his silver streaked beard that's mostly grey that glinted in the sun. Gippy is a 3rd generation timber faller in his early 80's. He helped his father build the house when he was still alive. It is two story's, and has a smaller deck above the one they are sitting on. Placed on top of a small knoll at the North side of the valley, it has nature colors of a light green color with white trim.

The baby dragon finished drinking the rest of the water that was left over in Rusty's bowl and feverishly, flapped its tiny wings to take flight and landed on the railing right next to Jeffreys shoulder. It has a faded multi-colored scaly body with tiny bumps going down the entire length of its spine. That will someday be horns, when it is fully grown. Bobbing its head up and down, it let out some tiny chirps and squaks, as if asking Gippy to continue telling the story of its ancestors.

"We didnt want to cut down that old, ancient redwood tree. However, it was the last remaining tree on our property. We needed the lumber so we could build our house. Its a good thing we did. Otherwise, these beautiful creatures may not have ever came back into existince." stated Gippy. As he ran his fingers over the small bumps on the dragon. "The hole that was left over from the tree was so big, this whole house could fit inside it!"

"Our whole house?! Really Gippy!" said Jeffrey in utter amazement.

"Oh yes my dear boy, and then some!" Gippy answered grinning. "What was found in the bottom of the crater was so much more magnificent. Those stones we found were not stones at all. They were eggs...dragon eggs. They hatched after about a month of being exposed to the warmth and light from the sun."

"So, you didnt know they were eggs?" Jeffrey asked.

"Nope. It surprised all of us. There was always a legend about the the Rainbow Dragon spirit, but everyone thought it was just a myth. It was said: There was a dragon that was so big, that it had the body the size of a small country and a tail that was so long that it wrapped its tail around the whole earth! She was considered to be the guardian and the p[rotector of the planet."
