When Ethan came back, his hands were behind his back.

Maya raised one of her eyebrows suspiciously.

“Whatcha doing? You look like you’re plotting something…”

“So your Mickey ears look adorable on you but it’s time to step it up a notch!”

The excitement in his eyes looked like the eyes of a child on Christmas morning, ready to open lots of presents. Indeed, Ethan had such a childlike heart. This aspect of him was one of the many things that Maya admired most about him.

“And how on earth do you propose I step up or outdo these shiny Mickey Mouse ears?”

She curtsied and bowed slightly. Ethan didn’t answer immediately but revealed what was behind his back. Maya gasped.

“A tiara! Oh my goodness!”

He took the Mickey Mouse ears off and set the radiant diamond studded tiara on her head. It was not a fake plastic one, it was real.

“There… now you can give all the princesses around here a run for their money!”

“You’re outrageous!”

“But you like it?”

“It’s gorgeous! Thank you!”

“I was nervous you’d think it was cheesy. But we’re at Disney after all… it’s supposed to be the happiest place on earth. As long as you’re having a good time, then I’m happy!”

More fireworks shot off in the distance and the watching crowd cheered. There was a toddler that whimpered somewhere who didn’t like the loud blasts of the fireworks. A gentle breeze blew on their faces.

“I wonder how the little kitten is?”

Maya asked and took a nice deep breath.

They’d left the kitten with one of Ethan’s neighbors who was especially fond of cats of all kinds. She was that stereotypical old cat lady type of person.

“Oh, knowing my neighbor, that cat is eating shrimp scampi and sirloin steak three times a day!”

She giggled.

“That must be nice!”

“Yeah, as much as animals are cute and fun, I’m really not home enough to keep a pet happy… and well, alive…”

“Maybe you should try keeping plants alive for practice at keeping things alive. Succulents, maybe? They only need to be watered like once a week.”

Ethan smiled.

“I’ve tried that. I just forget to water things. I’ll sing around plants all day but then weeks go by and I forget that they need water to stay alive. Then, I finally notice that they’ve shriveled up.”

“So, you sing to them? Why am I not surprised somehow?”

“Yes, it’s scientifically proven that plants respond to positive energy and singing.”

She lowered her eyes.

“Sorry, I can’t believe you until you’ve provided scholarly peer reviewed research…”

She looked away with a dramatic haughty look but then started laughing because his face had a look of disbelief for just a brief moment.

“I thought you were serious. Got me! At least I didn’t scream and scare off all the birds like someone I know on that rollercoaster earlier…”

“Are you kidding!? That rollercoaster was invented to induce screams! Besides those birds were probably just on their way to help Cinderella clean up her castle or something! Side note… You’ll be proud to know that I did not scream, at least outwardly during takeoff on my first flight ever to get to Florida.”

Maya nodded proudly.

Ethan applauded.

“Yes… yes… very impressive indeed, Princess Maya!”

He felt such joy just watching her every move and mannerism. She was a rollercoaster of thrills herself. Secretly, he wanted to scream when he looked at her. Her beauty was matchless and he wanted to express all of his feelings to her immediately, but instead he said…

“You’ll never guess what I’ve got planned for tomorrow…”

“Oh boy! Somebody hold my tiara!”

“You’re not wrong actually… you won’t be able to wear it for the adventure for tomorrow…”

“Hmmm… honestly, I’ve not the slightest clue…”

She raised her feminine eyebrows in wonder.

“I’ll give you a hint… It rhymes with…”

Ethan scratched his head, thinking.

“Grungy dumping!”

Maya’s face looked like she’d smelled something bad.

“Ewww.”

He didn’t wait for her to give a guess.

“Bungee jumping!”

Ethan playfully snatched the tiara off her head and put it on his own head. He acted just like a little school boy and ran off into the crowd. Maya took off after him, desperately trying not to run into any of the people in the crowd who were trying to eat their bags of popcorn and cotton candy.
