Snitches Don't Get Cuttlefishes

Silence fell. You could hear the glances being exchanged.

"State your name for the court," Mr Featherstone squawked.

The witness blinked.

"Are you refusing to cooperate? You were present at the scene. You issued the warning, didn't you?"

The witness tilted his head.

"Are you protecting the defendants?"

Blink. Blink.

"Your Honour, the witness is clearly stonewalling. I move to hold him in contempt."

"He’s a parrot, Mr. Featherstone."

"Yes, Your Honour! A hawk!"

"No, Mr Featherstone. He’s not a hawk, and he's not a rat either, apparently. He’s a literal bird; a parrot, and not legally obligated to testify."

Another drabble, inspired by a recent news story. A parrot was trained by drug dealers to shout "‘Mamãe, polícia!" whenever law enforcement was around.

As far as I know, said bird was not actually required to attend court.
