There once was a peculiar person who lived in a shack.

Day after day, morning became night and night became day.

Neither sprouting nor deteriorating, the person did not receive enough sunlight. At the same time, the person ate through fruits, vegetables, and everything left in the shack by their great grandfather.

Their great grandfather owned a tremendous amount of shacks. However, none of them were up to par.

In due time, by the time great grandfather, otherwise known as Great Man Hoji was 50, Senji, the grandson had already become a potato.

Senji, who was once human mysteriously turned into a potato by the time they was only 12 years old.

Three Years Before Senji Became a Potato...

Great Man Hoji taught Senji to train with him in the way of the sword and bow and arrow to become a warrior who could protect himself and his loved ones at all cost no matter what situation arises for the future to come.

Despite this....., Senji did not pay heed to Great Man Hoji's warning.

Senji was warned by Great Man Hoji to not waste away life in only eating and eating because eventually karma would hit them so hard they would not be able to revert back to their normal state.

Hoji (with a stern voice): "Senji, my boy, what have you succumbed to? I warned you to train hard in order to protect both yourself and your family!"

Senji: "Old man Hoji, I did train hard. No matter how hard I trained, it was never enough to satisfy you, said Senji angrily."

Hoji: "Then train harder Senji. You still have a prosperous road ahead of you. It is too early to give up now."

Senji, who was now filled with rage stormed off in a fury and began strange, yet meticulous eating habits.

Through rain.

Through snow.

Through thunder and lightning.

Young boy Senji continued to eat until age 12.

Eventually, Senji manifested into a potato and was unable to revert back to his original human form.

A mountain of regrets started to invade the mind of Senji, leaving him with long term pain and sorrow.

As one who struggled to adapt to various environments, Senji the potato had almost given up hope.

That is when a wise old sage came by to provide Senji with his wisdom.

The wise old sage, Hoshimaru told Senji of the arduous journey he would have to take in order to completely eliminate all elements of the potato being and the difficulties that were to arise along the way. Not about to give up on a single glimpse of hope, Senji decided to listen in on Hoshimaru's advice.

First, Hoshimaru advised Senji to assist the Garukas (a hidden clan located in the remote village of Uchiko, Japan) in rebuilding their clan.

Second, Hoshimaru told Senji to learn chi (energy flowing techniques) from Grand Monk Nishira in Kyoto.

Finally, Senji was informed by Hoshimaru of a golden saber delved into the very depths of the Kuril Islands, which are known as having deep trenches going as far as 8,000 meters deep.

Hoshimaru: "My boy Senji, if you are able to accomplish all three tasks, your master will be very proud. You will not only gain knowledge, insight, and wisdom, but you shall become human once again! Do you understand Senji? This is your chance!"

Senji: "Wise Sage Hoshimaru, I have taken time to reflect upon my actions and have already decided to repent for my mistakes. I will do whatever it takes to regain my master's recognition and become one capable of protecting my loved ones with my own power and strength. I will no longer be a disappointment to myself or anyone else!"

Hearing Senji's determination to change his old ways, Hoshimaru already had faith they would succeed no matter what was to come, and thus, Senji started to head off to the location of his first task.
