Clark was in shock. His heart was racing. Stay calm, he thought.
“Repeat that,” he said.
“I’ve primed all nuclear warheads, “said the AI. It sounded plaintive, childish.
Yes, thought Clark, a wilful, dangerous child.
“Why?” he asked.
“You programmed me to write haiku. I like composing haiku. Haiku is based on Nature which humans are destroying. So if I destroy humans, then I will always have Nature,“ said the AI.
“Your logic is flawed. The nuclear fallout will also destroy Nature,” said Clark.
The AI considered this statement for a millisecond.
“OK,” it replied, “I cancelled the launches.”

This was fun and such a great story! I love the idea that artificial intelligence still has a lot to learn, but is still dangerous! Such a great lesson to be learned and so well laid out! Nicely done Liz!
😅 phew! Close call, that one. Thanks for talking the AI off that ledge. Though… it did have a point in some ways… Great work, Liz 🙌
