They all showed up. She couldn't believe it. Nine 18-year-old farm kids in five big-ass trucks. They didn't just help, they took charge - carrying, loading, orchestrating. They offered her encouragement and comforting glances amidst their playful banter. Their maturity was unexpected... which made her feel guilty for her own presumption. Everything she thought she knew was wrong and this was yet another example. She thought it would take all night, but they were done in an hour. They wouldn't even accept cash. These were the heroes who helped this recently-divorced single mom, this survivor, move into her new life.
