1990
"Mom, what's for dinner?"
She shifted toward her son Ryan and paused the Star Trek: Next Generation episode.
"PB and J."
"No, Mom. I want mac and cheese."
"You make it. Just tell the microwave what to do."
Ryan studied the box TV as Jean-Luc Picard ordered the food replicator to make Earl Gray tea.
2033
Flashes blinded Ryan as he unveiled his new invention-an open metal box-before the crowd of reporters and scientists.
"Macaroni and cheese, please."
Molecules resequenced into the creamy dish.
"What do you call it?"
"MWFD. Or Mom, What's for Dinner."
