Misplaced Earrings
A story of two friends who lost their way and along the way lost something more
Earrings so gold and black. Like icicle spikes that dangles from a ball so small. A black eye silhouetted with golden liners and yet, it sits in the center of the earring where the spikes lay. These pair of 2’s that wears on both ears, is made to staple a show we’ve experienced, and played. A gift of some sort from someone so dear. A high school friend who’ve parted and now entered revered. These earrings have yet to arrive. Soon it will be exchanged, soon it will be renamed.
We travel to the past to find said origins. To find what makes the earrings, this gift so special. A show like none other that brought me to life. Bonding and sharing is where we all began. Earrings so small even I can barely see it, on the palm of my hand. Friends we were and grown to be closer, soon after, our college years moved us to where I need to move forward. There earrings sat in a shop so far away, ordered to be a gift to tell a friend “wherever you go, I’m here to stay.”
Shown to celebrate the other to commemorate peace, both earrings split in two so each of us has memories to go to. Ears not pierced so there’s no way to wear them, held in a box of treasures where there’s no way to find them. Trapped in the dark so cold and scared. An earring not feeling hole because something is missing. The other half to make it complete and an open box so it becomes freeing. Connected to each person both players grew apart, years later only to find one of the earrings, have reached out.
In a moment of peace and grandeur the earring felt such joy. To find another once again. To reminisce on the emotions that came from the past. On the road to self reflection, the earring was beginning to find pride in oneself. To be able to be worn without the other. To make a statement that independence is healthy and key for this earring. Upon meeting the other earring, they come with struggle and pain. Pain from a recent disaster only to find someone who can help them and go through this task. Reaching out for anyone for you were only thought of as a last resort.
Dirty and used the earring come in search to be hole to find the other piece whom to be lost so they can pretend. Have high hopes and expectations from one, only because the earring was struggling and in need of their other one. Upon such exploration, the earring has been lost. Fell to the waste side and left to the dust bunnies to become one of their own. Sinking into the despair of struggle and no self care. Without cause, the clean earring finds and caters to the other without judgement only to find what lies ahead isn’t alright.
Found but now lost the two earrings are together and whole. Connecting and binding as one. What begins as an old friend reunited, slowly becomes a corrupted indictment. Clean things off and shine until sparkle, the dirty earrings becomes clean as the already clean one rusts away. Losing its shine trying to manage both, risking their time when one has been involked. Together as one they should be great. Seperate journeys had change them to be anything but elate. Brought together by time and chance both earrings now have to part once again so they can prance. Find their sparkle and rise from the top, these accessories shall now grow apart and heal from this start.

“Ears not pierced so there’s no way to wear them, held in a box of treasures where there’s no way to find them.” is a great line, and the concept of two paired but separated earrings is a good idea for the misplaced challenge! Good luck with your entry:)
