for the country to be stable, the eunuchs should be rejected, and the power should be handed over to the prime minister and the military power to the generals.

The exam paper fell into the hands of several examiners, who passed it around and praised it, saying that it was not only a good essay but also a well-reasoned one. However, when it came to the decision of acceptance, no one dared to express their attitude, because if they accepted Liu Qiaoxian, they would offend the eunuchs, and their positions would not be saved.

As a result, all of the twenty-two people who came with Liu Qiaoxian were successful, but Liu Qiaoxian was not selected. He was recognized as an outstanding talent, but he was not selected because he said something righteous, so everyone felt that he was wronged. The successful candidates said, "It's a shame that we won the list when Liu Hsiang lost."

Tang Wenzong, who lived his life under the manipulation of eunuchs, was so angry with himself that he was bent on getting rid of them. Once, Tang Wenzong had a sickness and was desperate to find a doctor. It so happened that the head eunuch Li Shoucheng had an official under him named Zheng Zhucheng, who was well versed in medical science. Wang Shoucheng recommended him to Tang Emperor Wenzong to cure his illness. Wen Zong took his medicine and got better day by day. The Tang Emperor was very happy and summoned Zheng Zhizhi to see him. He found that Zheng Zhizhi was very eloquent and seemed to be a talented person, so he promoted him to the position of the imperial historian.

Zheng Zhizhi had a friend, Li Xun, who was a very unpromising official. When he heard that Zheng Zhizhi had been reappointed by the court, he brought some gifts and asked to see Zheng Zhizhi. Zheng Zhizhi wanted to find a helper, so he asked Wang Shoucheng to recommend Li Xun to Emperor Wen Zong. Li Xun also gained the trust of Emperor Wen Zong, and later, he was promoted to the position of chancellor.

When Li Xun and Zheng Zhuyu gained the trust of Emperor Wen of Tang, he told them about his desire to get rid of the eunuchs. They then secretly discussed with Emperor Wen Zong ideas to weaken Wang Shoucheng's power. They inquired about a eunuch under Wang Shoucheng, Qiu Shiliang, who had conflicts with Wang Shoucheng, so they asked Wen Zong to appoint Qiu Shiliang as a left divine strategy lieutenant to lead a part of the forbidden army.

Then, Li Xun dismissed Wang Shoucheng's military power. Wang Shoucheng lost his military power, so it was easy to manipulate. Finally, the Tang Emperor gave Wang Shoucheng a cup of poisoned wine and killed him.

After Wang Shoucheng was removed, it was time to get rid of Qiu Shiliang. After some planning, Li Xun contacted the general of the forbidden army, Han Yao, and decided to do it. One day in 835 A.D., when Tang Emperor Wenzong was in the court, Han Yao came to the hall and told him that a pomegranate tree in the backyard of the guard hall had brought down manna last night. It turned out that the feudal dynasty was the most superstitious, and manna from heaven was considered a good omen. Li Xun immediately led the civil and military officials to congratulate Emperor Wen Zong and invited him to go to his backyard to see the dew in person.

The Tang Emperor ordered Chancellor Li Xun to go and see it first. Li Xun pretended to go to the courtyard and turned around and said, "I went to look at it, but I am afraid it is not real manna, please send someone to review it, Your Majesty."
