Christmas was canceled, not officially, but it might as well be. Santa and Mrs Claus had a bad case of the Reindeer Flu. All the elves were too worn out from doing their regular jobs and caring for both. No one left could load, let alone fly the sleigh tonight. It was Christmas Eve, and they would have to cancel for the first time in history.

Wondering who would be the one to tell Krampus, the elves decided to draw straws, and whoever drew the shortest straw would have to tell Krampus that he had to stay in for the night. Poor Peppermint Pete drew the shortest straw and set out to the edge of Christmas Village to Krampus’s house to inform him of the news.

Krampus took the news differently than all the elves thought he would. He didn’t rage and yell or scream and maim like they would have expected. Instead, he sat and thought, and he thought some more. Finally, Krampus smiled, and he stood up.

“I will do Santa’s job tonight. Wait, let me explain, and it will all make sense. You see, I’m already going out and taking the naughtiest of the naughty tonight. My job takes a lot less time than my jolly brother’s does. So, it only makes sense that I take over for him on the night he cannot fulfill his responsibilities.” Krampus explained.

All the elves looked from one to the other, but Peppermint Pete answered, “But the Reindeer won’t get near you!”

Rubbing his chin, Krampus replied, “It is true; the fine Reindeer will have naught to do with me. I will have to use my wolves and sleigh for the job tonight and hope no one sees me.”

With that, everyone set to and loaded up Krampus's sleigh with Santa’s unique gift bag. Krampus set off to do his and his brother’s jobs on Christmas Eve Night. And he, indeed, was a hero that Holiday Season.

Not what I expected- it's nice to see Krampus helping out the good instead of just punishing the bad. Love it.
