Once upon a time, there lived an old woman on a hill who planted a date palm tree. The old woman took care of the date palm tree with great care! She caught insects, watered, and fertilized the tree early every day.

Finally, in the autumn, after the grandmother's careful care, the tree was full of dates, which grew red and big.

One day, the grandmother went to the city. Suddenly the wind blew, and soon it started to rain outside, big and fierce. The rain fell from the sky like beans and pearls, crackling and falling on every corner, "splintering and snapping", blowing all the dates to the ground.

In the evening, when the rain stopped, a little hedgehog went under the date palm tree, rolled around, and went back with the dates. He was still thinking that he was lucky today, that he must have a big meal tonight, and that he had to hurry up and get some more to save for the winter.

Not far away, a woodpecker flew in and asked, "Who gave you the dates?" The little hedgehog said, "I picked them up. There are a lot of them over there, so why don't you go and get some?"

The little woodpecker was about to say something when a little magpie flew in and said, "The date palm tree was planted by the old woman with great effort, how can you take the dates away when she is not at home?"

The little hedgehog was very embarrassed. It said, "I just moved here, and I thought it was a wild date!" It quickly backed up and shook the dates hard, shaking them on the ground.

The little woodpecker said, "The old woman is not back yet. You see, these dates will be spoiled by the rain."

The little magpie said, "Let's take the dates to the old lady's house, okay?" The little woodpecker said, "Yes!" The little hedgehog said, "Yes, it's time for me to do more work." He immediately rolled another date.

The little magpie and the little woodpecker, with dates in their mouths and dates in their claws, flew over.

The door of the old woman's house was closed, and the little woodpecker put the dates down and pecked at the door. The little magpie said, "No, you can't peck." He flew to the window sill and pecked a hole in the window paper.

The little hedgehog came too. He said, "Let me carry all the dates, and you two send them in."

The little hedgehog came and went, and the little pecker and the little magpie threw them through the hole in the window, flying up and down for a while. The three of them were tired, but they were very happy.

When the clouds opened and the moon came out, the little hedgehog said, "Let's go to the big rock over there and take a rest!"

After a while, when they saw the old woman coming back, they all quietly hid behind the big rock.

The old woman looked up at the tree and saw that there was not a single date left. She sighed and said, "Alas, they must have been blown to the ground by the wind and washed away by the rain!"

She opened the door of the house sadly, and just as she stepped in, she saw the dates all over the ground and was so happy that she looked at them and touched them.

The old woman went out the door and looked around, but there was no one there. She said to herself, "Who did this for me? How can I thank him?"

The little hedgehog, the little woodpecker, and the little magpie listened and laughed secretly.
