The corruption of Kismet

It was when she woke up, the voices of the surrounding area transmitting through both her telepathy and empathy louder than usual the different voices in various stages of being coupled with the influx of emotion giving her a migraine. Her intuition running high as goosebumps broke across her skin while she looked out of the bay windows of her apartment to see the ominous darkness of the sky that greeted her. Something big was to happen today, and she knew at that moment as she shivered hearing the call come in on her hero line for an emergency that things would never be the same again.

Quickly shaking off the foreboding feeling that seemed to cling to her very essence she hurriedly donned the familiar lavender and white of her Hero costume, securing the mask that hid her identity onto her Mahogany face. Aaliyah Jones becoming the masked hero known as Kismet, before quickly grabbing the communication device and attaching it to her gloves ,and securing her bow staff in her boots hurrying out of her apartment door. After getting the information that her arch-nemesis, otherwise known as Implication, was involved in a hostage situation at a local news station. Hurrying over to the location she came through the roof of the building, quietly as to not bring attention to her presence.

The villains of the world weren't like the ones you'd see on children's television shows. They were truly insane, depraved evil beings with power and much more intelligence than one may lead you to believe. These villains, murdered, pillaged, stole and abused, tortured for nothing more than their enjoyment and the fact that they could; which is the reason the world needed heroes in the first place. Kismet hurried down the stairway ignoring the emotions that her empathic abilities were picking up and the thoughts that had created a cacophony in her head from her minor telepathy as she used it to guide her to where he was. Hurrying before the pain became an unbearable distraction which would help no one in the long run. As she raced through the final door with her staff already out. While trying not to choke on the overwhelming feelings of malevolence ,and fear that permeated the air with a smell distinctive scent of burning flesh. The unexpected scent brought her to a pause and she noticed some bodies scattered across the floor unmoving. Quickly she set about the task of dispatching the few henchmen that followed Implication around before turning to the man in question.

He was dangerous more so because he was a villain that believed himself to be right and justified in his cause. Implication was not only gifted with super strength but also carried a wildly analytical and intelligent mind a dangerous combination that led way to a force to be reckoned with. The dangerous clarity that could be seen within his ice-blue eyes. He believed that humanity was filled with greed ,that they carried a hive-minded existence. He believed them to be so set in their views of black and white that they would always be ungrateful and turn on you no matter what you did for them. That there needed to be a culling of these humans for the "good of the world" since there was no hope ,and hate and distrust will always be within them for no reason. A belief reinforced by the years of slavery, rape, political manipulations and oppression coupled with senseless murder in the past had shown; the examples of the state of the world today only confirming it. Kismet knew some of what he said was true, she could feel it, hear it in some of the thoughts of the very people she constantly risked herself to save. The hatred and distrust and judgment towards her simply because of the color of her skin no matter how many times she had proved herself. Her parents were murdered by those that carried this disgusting mindset. One that everyone tried to ignore as if it had only existed in the past, especially if you had enough money and backing to throw around but she knew different.

The moment of being lost in her thoughts cost her as she felt her head snap backward from the force of his punch, she quickly shook herself, cursing for making such an amateur mistake as that one while she used her bo staff to block his next hit. He wasn't one of those villains that monologued to allow you to get the upper hand or think about his moves, he moved on instinct a powerhouse that you had to constantly be one step ahead of. Kismet flipped out of his approaching punch before sending her staff into the hollows behind his knees attempting to knock him off balance, he was unfortunately surprisingly agile and turned out of the attack sending quick rapid heavy-hitting punches to her unguarded side as she spat out blood. What unnerved her was the manic calculating look within his cold eyes before he knocked her down, heading for an injured reporter. Kismet acted before she thought, quickly pushing the woman out of the way right in time to have her neck grabbed and her body slammed into the wall by a still grinning Implication. She struggled and scratched within his hold, he simply tightened it the crazed look in his eye only seemed to become wider as the black spots started taking over her vision. She could feel the desperation setting in, the will to live as she did something she never thought she would do something she consciously avoided as she walked the thin line of a hero with the odds stacked against her. She focused on her empathic powers, the desperation helping it to take hold as she dredged up every emotional feeling of pain and negativity she had absorbed, suppressed or felt throughout the years. She unlocked the door she had on her telepathic abilities and pushed it into him she overwhelmed him in mental anguish. Even as he released her while his eyes rolled back in his head ,and she still kept going with an almost animalistic scream she had blacked out and only wanted it to END. It wasn't until she came back to herself, saw the blood leaking out of his ears, nose eyes and his curiously smiling mouth as his skin took on a gray pallor as she felt the automatic fear and hate building from those around her directed at her person did she realize what she had done. She had killed Implication and gave him what he wanted, and in his death feeling the emotions and hearing the thoughts against her from the ones she almost died to save was she overwhelmed. She did the only thing she could think of at the time, she ran. Back to her home avoiding the crowds, she ran through the secret entrance before locking it tightly. Tears streamed down her face as she took off her costume and ran to the shower trying to scrub off what she'd done, what she'd felt and heard from the people today as she drowned in her sorrow, fear, and pain scrubbing until the water ran cold and her skin raw.

Stepping out of the shower as her hair dripped onto the tiled floor and she haphazardly wrapped a towel around herself, ignoring the wild beeping of the communication transmitter as she shuffled into the still dark living room curling herself into the sofa and just staring at the wall allowing her mind to roam as she battled with herself. "What have I done?" , "what you needed to do ", A sultry dark voice answered back. "They hate me, I saw their faces heard their exclamations of disgust, felt their fear and hate, never mind the fact that it was for THEM I almost died for THEM " she internally screamed before the voice answered back, "Implication told you, humans were hateful, selfish, ungrateful creatures, they have never appreciated you, you will always be other to them. How dare they treat you like that, you should just get rid of them. I'll always be here for you, we are one Aaliyah. All you must do is surrender " it whispered almost sweetly. Aaliyah quickly got up shaking her head to try to rid the thoughts as she noted that there was pale light peeking through her window 'how long have I been here?' She thought finally noticing how cold she was from laying in only a towel though surprisingly she was fully dry. She had walked over to the transmitter noticing it was 7 am the next day and to see a message from the chief of police " We know what you've done Kismet, no matter who you are taking a life is a crime and you need to turn yourself in ." The dark feeling got stronger with the message as she smashed the device, the dark voice still whispering thoughts of violence and retribution in her ears she absently went to turn the tv on. It was still on a news station and the story coverage was on her she didn't listen to all of it but certain words and the almost smug look on the reporter’s face stuck out to her. 'Violent Criminal' , 'menace' ,'unstable' ,'evil' ,'unnecessary' . Every word and accusation was like a stab within her soul, slowly cracking pieces as the voice got louder. The thoughts of those around her area rushing in, calling for her arrest, calling her vile disgusting names like she hadn't risked so much for them throughout the years. Like she hadn't almost died for these ungrateful pieces of trash multiple times despite what they said about her, thought about her she still did it and she didn't HAVE to. The dark voice in her mind got stronger in glee with her anger, whispering encouragement to her dark thoughts "that's right, they are ungrateful, they need to learn their place, they don't deserve your loyalty. " she agreed internally with the voice, the television only adding fuel to the fire in the background. "They are disgraceful, I will help you show them all, I will help you remind them of their place, show them that you are not for their abuse". As the last interview came onto the television it was the police chief that she had once thought of as a friend. "Kismet you now have a warrant out for your arrest, we need you to turn yourself in for the death of Implication. Running will only further cement your guilt and we won't stop until you are behind bars as a risk to our people" it was the final nail in the coffin that was once her pure soul as she succumbed herself to her darkness . "If you want me to be a villain so much, then I'll be what you all say that I am. Be the evil that you are all so afraid of. You all miss Implication so much then I will assist you, this is the time for rebirth, and Implication has once again risen " she said softly to the TV her eyes momentarily going black as the darkness took over and an evil smile graced her beautiful face. The heart and soul of someone once so good having been tainted and beaten into something stronger and darker. Kismet was dead, but Implication was very much alive.
