Yaila deplored this new tendency of his to invade her thoughts. Three times today, she had completely checked out of a real conversation and into an imaginary one with him. He murmured all the right things and looked dazzling doing it. It was ridiculous how many hours she was wasting on daydreams.
An uncomfortable thought came to her: was this love? Did it still exist?
She took a coffee to his desk, glancing at his screen as she put it down. It was covered in code and corrupted images she recognised.
So that was it. He'd hacked her chip. Asshole.

Cara stared out the window as her coffee machine spluttered its vital produce into a large yellow mug. She watched the New Years Resolutions jog past, pale and determined. Whatever else was going wrong in her life, at least she had managed to resist the urge to practice self-love through punitive torture until January 17 and the inevitable collapse onto the sofa, alone, with a sharing bag of chocolate.
