Sarah and Nicholas had been living together for a few years. They were happy and in love, but Sarah had no idea that her beau was hiding a secret from her.

One night, while Sarah was fast asleep, she heard a rustling sound in the room. She opened her eyes to see a bat hovering above her bed. Startled, she sat up, causing the bat to fly away.

In the morning, Sarah asked Nicholas if he had heard any strange noises during the night. He looked serious and told her the truth.

"I'm not exactly human," he said.

Sarah's heart raced, shocked by the news. She thought he was joking at first, but when he explained everything, she knew he was serious.

Nicholas was a vampire, but he had chosen to give up his vampiric ways and live a normal human life. His family didn't approve of his decision and wanted him back.

Every evening, they would turn into bats, sneak into Sarah and Nicholas's bedroom, and attempt to bite him. But he was quick and dodged them every time.

With a shaky voice “have you killed anyone?” asked Sarah

Looking regretful, Nicholas nodded his head as he saw the horror on Sarah’s face.

“Just one guy, he was an asshole. I mostly sucked on bunnies”

A huge GASP as Sarah whispers “Mrs. Pickles?” as she almost teared up.

“Come on, she was hit by a car, you know that!” said Nicholas, kind of disappointed in Sarah.

“I don’t know anything anymore, I’m in love with a vampire killer rabbit addict hottie and now I feel like I’m in Twilight and you know how much I hate but love that movie and I just can’t-”

Nicholas stops Sarah, “breathe, just breathe!”

Their conversation was interrupted by a pounding at the door. Sarah's throat closed up with fear as she looked to Nicholas for an explanation.

"You know why we're here," a cloaked figure said.

Nicholas tensed, scanning the room for anything he could use as a weapon. He walked over to the door and took a deep breath before opening it.

Three shadowy figures stood on the doorstep, their faces pale. The one who seemed to be the leader spoke.

"Nicholas, we've come to make things right."

Nicholas stood his ground.

"I’ve made my choice a long time ago! I’m staying human!" he said, firmly.

“How long exactly ago” asked Sarah quietly.

Nicholas turned over at Sarah “Really?”

Sarah shook her head, she didn’t.

The trio exchanged a look before attacking Nicholas. The room was chaos as Sarah watched, terrified, seeing Nicholas's supernatural speed and strength.

“I thought you said you were human now” shouted Sarah.

She felt helpless, like a damsel in distress. But as the fight continued, she realized she couldn't stand by. She searched for anything to use as a weapon and saw a fireplace poker.

Without hesitation, Sarah picked it up and charged at the vampires. She hit one, giving Nicholas a moment to recover.

But Sarah noticed something strange. Nicholas's eyes were turning red, and his teeth were sharpening.

"He's turning into a vampire!" she cried.

Nicholas was silent, fighting to keep his vampiric traits at bay. But the fight was relentless, and Sarah saw he was losing. She realized the irony - Nicholas had rejected his vampiric past only to be brought back into it by his own family.

But Sarah wouldn't give up. She knew she had to act fast. Summoning her courage, she attacked the vampires once again, wielding the fireplace poker like a warrior princess.

The fight was intense, but Sarah and Nicholas fought together as a team.

“Hey, is it true what they say about garlic keeping vampires away?” asked Sarah as she barely caught her breath.

“Yup,” said Nicholas as he kept fighting.

“But you love garlic!” said Sarah.

“I’m human with some vampiral residue”

Satisfied, Sarah quickly ran into the kitchen and grabbed a tupperware of leftover food. She brought it over and quickly removed its cover.

Quickly an intense garlic smell started to fill the room.

Finally, with a loud crash, the last of the attackers was jettisoned out the window, their bat forms screeching into the night. Sarah and Nicholas collapsed onto the couch, breathing heavily.

"That was insane," Sarah said, still in disbelief at what had just happened.

Nicholas nodded, looking at her with gratitude. "I couldn't have done it without you," he said.

They both looked at each other, realizing how much they had been through together. They knew they could face.

“It kind of felt, well- awesome?” Sarah wasn’t sure if she was more shocked to feel this way or to admit it out loud. Her face turned red and she looked somewhat guilty.

“I mean I know you almost died or un-died, not sure, but yeah that was a thrill.”

“Okay Buffy, let’s get you back to bed” said Nicholas as he gently grabbed her arm to lead her back to bed.

Suddenly sleepy, Sarah started walking upstairs with Nicolas and as they did she asked “what do you feel like having for dinner tomorrow?”

“Something garlicky” said Nicholas. He knew it was cheesy but he just couldn’t hold it back.

They laughed together until it turned into a smile as they realized that from that day on, they would only ever cook dishes full of garlic.
