He sniffed the side of the street, trying to find his way home. Not too long ago, his owners dumped him there. He didn't understand why they would do this, but he knew he loved them and had to find his way home. He wandered up the street for a mile. All he could think about was seeing his owners soon.

After a few more miles, he was exhausted and thirsty. He kept moving forward to the goal of seeing them. he thought maybe it was a mistake and they meant to come back for him. Maybe they were playing a joke. after all, they liked to joke, just like that time they called him useless and said they hated him.

He kept wandering the path. panting from the heat. He kept sniffing to track their car. after eight miles, he made it to their house. He was so happy and couldn't wait to see their faces. He walked up to the door and clawed at it. He had no energy to bark, he was severely dehydrated and tired. After a minute of waiting, his owner opened the door. His face went from shocked to disgusted. "How did you get back here, you stupid dog!" He shouted.

He quickly grabbed the dog and shoved him into the truck. The dog lay down in the back seat, too tired to sit up. He knew now that he wasn't wanted but he still loved his owner. Eventually, the car stopped and his owner grabbed him and dragged him inside a white building. His owner was talking to the man at the front counter. He had no idea what was happening but before he knew it he was getting dragged away and put into a cage surrounded by other dogs.

Many people came and went but no one stayed. He became depressed and fearful of being thrown away. One way a young woman came in to see him. She was gentle and kind. She didn't force him to come to her or yell when she didn't get her way. She just sat there and waited for him to come to her. When he did, she let him sniff her, and when he let her pet him, her hands were gentle and kind.

He didn't understand what was happening but they put a collar and leash on him and he walked to the car with the young woman. During the car ride, he was scared. He was afraid that she'd drop him on the side of the road like the others. Eventually, they arrived at a small brown house when they walked in she let him off the leash. There were so many toys for him to play with and even a bed for him to sleep in. He started to wag his tail and looked at her.

She kneeled down in front of him, "For now on you'll live here and I promise to give you a good life. We'll go on lots of walks and you'll have lots of treats. I'll also play with you every day." His tail started wagging faster and he licked her face. She laughed, "I think I'll call you Racer." She gave him a treat while saying that. He gladly accepted the treat knowing that he'll like it here.
