Code is everywhere. It was found in the body makeup of a young girl. Like cryptic coloration, her skin changed from plum colored to ivory with just a flick of her wrist.

“Mrs. Gaither, Mr. Gaither, for your child to attend this school, she’s going to have to be one color. The Delaware Board of Education must distinguish between black and white,” Finland Byerton explained.

“Why? Is there some kind of chemical threat posed by a girl who can change from black to white?” Harrah Gaither asked. She sounded firm and true.

“It’s just what we do around here.”
