Nicky huffed as sweat dripped down her face. All her mussels felt heavy, and her steel dagger even heavier. She couldn't tell if she would die where she stood or come out victorious. Strands of her dark black hair had fallen out of her ponytail, her clothes had tears in them, and she had cuts on her forehead, thigh, and shoulder. Even so, desire burned within her emerald eyes.

Nicky's opponent, Oliver, stood before her with a smile. He stood before her with his blonde hair a mess, sweating bullets and bleeding down his face, blocking his vision. He had no room to look so cocky. After all, he was in no better condition. He started to laugh as his sword dragged on the ground.

Nicky looked at him with a disgusted look on her face. "What's so funny at a time like this?" She remarked in a furious tone. Oliver rolled his eyes, "Why do you care? It's not like you'll live to do anything with the information?" "What makes you so confident? It's not like you're in any better condition!" Nicky snapped.

"That may be true, but I have something you don't," Oliver smiled mischievously. Nicky rolled her eyes, "oh? and what's that?" Oliver smirked as he pulled a small potion out of his coat pocket. The brew was red, with bubbles rising as if it was boiling. Nicky's eyes widened as soon as she caught a glimpse of it. She knew exactly what it was, a potion of healing. Her body started to tremble as she knew these were the last few moments of her short life.

Oliver kicked off the ground and charged at her, time stopped for a brief moment for Nicky. She felt a sharp pain pierce through her abdomen. She contemplated fighting back but knew what the end result would be. Instead, she accepted her fate and awaited death. She fell to the ground and closed her eyes, thinking of how things could have ended differently for her and Oliver. At that moment, her heart stopped.

Nicky opened her eyes, gasping for air. She looked around the room, noticing the resemblance to her childhood room. A knock came at the door. "May I come in?" a voice came. "yes," Nicky stuttered. A woman entered the room. Her hair was neatly tied up in a bun, and she wore a maid uniform. Nicky stared at the woman, recognizing her as her childhood maid, Martha.

"The man you are to marry will be here in an hour. I am to help you get dressed," Martha told her. "The man I am to marry?" Nicky questioned. Martha quickly turned to her, "yes, I believe his name was Oliver." Nicky's eyes widened as she realized she had jumped through time. This was her opportunity to change fate.

"Martha, make me look drop-dead gorgeous," Nicky commanded. Martha nodded as she dressed her up like a princess. After they were finished, Nicky walked down the stairs. She stopped at the top once she saw Oliver standing at the bottom. Her heart began to drop, "could I really do this, How am I supposed to love the man that hates me? How will I get over the fact that he killed me?" Nicky thought.

Oliver looked up at her, and all of her previous thoughts washed away. Oliver's eyes were full of love and wonder. This was not the same Oliver from the future. Nicky smiled as she slowly walked down the staircase. When she reached the bottom, Oliver bowed and kissed her hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Oliver Jackson, and I promise I will be a good husband to you," Oliver's words were sincere and delivered with a warm smile.

Nicky started to get butterflies in her stomach, "so then, Oliver, where are we going on our first date?" Oliver smiled warmly at her, "where ever you want to go." "Let's go to the rose garden in the center of town," Nicky suggested, her stomach full of butterflies. She never thought that she could feel this was about a person, let alone Oliver. Originally she was so against the idea of marriage that she never gave him a chance. She ended up declaring war on his family.

Nicky and Oliver went on date after date. After each date, they felt closer to each other. Nicky felt as if she had finally found what she was looking for. Who could've thought that it was her enemy?
