There weren't always dragons in the Valley. But there was always dragon eggs. Sometimes a human could stumble across an egg, so big and bright, heat radiating off its surface. Sometimes, the egg would be cold to the touch, meaing that the egg lost its heat and there as no helping the baby inside.

Cara knew that there was a dragon baby just being born in the Valley, who was scared and lonely. It was calling out for its mother. Cara knew because she heard a baby's cry in her head. She also heard the parent soothe the baby, singing it a few lullabies.

"Cara, dear, please go down to the market and get some new supplies," her mother told her, as she was continuing to pack up their home. "We must hurry, the carriages will be leaving soon."

"I don't understand why we have to move." Cara got up from where she was sitting, staring out the window. "It's not like the dragons are causing us harm."

"They are dragons." Her mother hurried down the hall, clothes in her arms. "Now go, before the market closes."

Cara left her house, grabbing her small coin purse and running down the path. Everyone around her was packing up, little kids being placed in carriages to be taken out of the village. Elders yelling out about the end of the town, screaming at the top of their lungs that the dragons are coming to burn the village and everyone still left.

She shook her head and made her way in the market, looking at the many stalls that were still out. As she was looking at a stall filled to the brim still with jewels of different colors, there was the sound of beating wings up above her and a strong mighty voice in her head.

"My child! Where are you!" Cara looked up from her crouched position from under the table. There was a dragon overhead, it's long neck turning from side to side, a distressed call falling from it's curled lips. "Please still be safe, these humans are dangerous!"

Cara scrunched her nose in cofusion, getting up from the ground. There was a tug from her left side, someone trying to get her to get back down. "Excuse me!" she said, her voice loud in the silence of the market. "Humans are not the dangerous things in this valley!"

The dragon looked down, its black beady eyes boring into Cara's eyes. "What is this human saying?"

"I'm saying that we are not dangerous."

"You understand me?"

"Yes."

"Mommy!" Cara turned her head sharply to the right. The shout came from down the river. "Mommy, a human has gotten me!"

"My baby!" The dragon turned and roared, flames coming from deep in its body. "Where are you!"

Cara raced down to the river, where a few men were strapping a baby dragon ot a wagon, laughing as it struggled against the bonds on its body.

"I can't believe we caught one of the creatures," one of the men said, poking the dragon in the side, the little shout of pain in Cara's head loud.

"Hey!" she said, staring at them. "Let it go!"

"Are you insane?" the man said. "We are not going to let it go, so it could come back and kill us."

"Its not going to do that, its just a baby!" Cara said, feeling anger raise in her. "Let it go!" Cara's voice rose high above the sound of screaming.

"The dragon voice?" one of the men said, stepping away from the wagon. The other men stepped away as well, letting the dragon go, it's tiny body wiggling free and flapping its little wings, gathering some air as it flew to the sky. "I never knew it actually existed."

Cara stood there, anger deep in her skin, smoke slowly leaving her mouth. "Dragon Voice?" she asked, slowly cooling down, her shoulders lowering. "What are you talking about?" The little dragon found itself landing on the ground by her feet, its head leaning against her legs. "Um, hello."

"Hi!"

"My name is Cara, what's your name?"

"Oh, I don't have a name, my mommy calls me with her voice!"

"Oh, um, okay."

"Are you talking with the dragon?" a voice said from behind her. She turned her head, startled. Her mother stood there, her face pale under the shade of the trees. "How is that possible?"

Cara shook her head, shrugging. "Its just happened earlier this week, when wer started to pack, there was this voice in my head."

"Oh, my goodness," her mother said, stepping back. "You're dragon touched, how is this possible?"

"I've told you, all of you, that there was someone dragon touched here, and none of you listened to me!" the old lady said, shaking her cane at everyone around her.

Cara felt the strong breeze around her and a huge body fall onto the ground, shaking the trees and making everyone scream. She turned around and was face to snout with the mother dragon, her stilted, yellow eyes boring into Cara's. "Hello," she said.

"Hello, young human, thank you for resecuing my child," the mother said, reaching one claw out for the baby still attached to Cara's leg.

"It was no issue."

They all stood there and watched as the dragon shook her body, glittering scales dropping in droves onto the grass. She grabbed her baby and lept into the air, flapping her powerful wings. Cara waved, one scale clutched in her hand.

"Cara sweetie," her mother said, reaching shaking fingers over her shoulder. "We must continue to pack."

"I'm not going."
