Doomsday Parade

Fear is nothing compared to humanity’s need to be loved.

By Kayla YoungPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

It was the year 2048, 3 years after the martian invasion of earth destroyed the place we used to call our sanctuary. A cold hearted young woman who named herself Olivia, was one of the only survivors of the deadly attack on our planet. She had no trace of her family besides a heart shaped locket her mother gave her. She knew she had a purpose, and she was going to reach it.

Olivia took shelter in a freight shipping container, there she had everything she needed, solar power, a cooking stove, a tv with dvds of all her favorite movies, but nothing could compare to human interaction.

She longed to be loved. Being alone in a world that had been destroyed so carelessly had turned her heart into steel. Yet still she would find herself hoping and wishing to find another human.

It was a cold morning, when she put on her gas mask and hazmat suit and went out to look for anything she could find. She would tell herself she was looking for food but she knew deep down what she really wanted was to see a person's face, to hear a voice, to talk without feeling like a crazy person talking to herself.

As she ventured into the misty cold morning, she heard a loud pop!

She was so afraid, they Greys are very intelligent beings and would kill her or worse, beam her up to their ship and do who knows what to her...

She hid behind an old torn up bus stop that had been broken by a Martian spacecraft. Upon inspection, she found that the noise came from a house.

She studied this house for a while, and to her surprise the front door swung wide open. It was a tall, dark, and handsome man. Much too good to be true.

She stood there in awe just watching him, he was holding a gun, his clothes were covered in orange Martian blood. He looked as if he had been sweating buckets. His clothes were dirty, his hair was a mess. She was still in shock when she slowly made her way to him.

He didn’t notice her until she was nearly 10 feet from him.

“Get down!” He yelled.

She ducked and at that same moment he shot a Grey in the head right behind her!

“Aihhhhhh!!!!” Olivia shrieked in terror and ran into the house where he came from, to her surprise there were Greys bodies everywhere. She looked around in astonishment.

The man walked into the house and locked the door. “You have to be careful, you can never stop in one place for too long, and you always need to be watching your back. What were you thinking?”

Olivia couldn’t even form real words. She was so amazed to see another human, she said “I just , I can’t, I don’t, I ...”

“Nevermind that, where are my manners, my name is Cole Walker, what’s your name?”

“I’m Olivia.”

“Nice to meet you Olivia, why are you out here and where have you been?”

“I was looking for food, I didn’t expect to see another person. I live just a few miles from here. I’m so glad I saw you when I did, you really saved me back there. How can I repay you?”

“Don’t sweat it, Olivia. Just promise me you’ll take my advice and NEVER do that again. “

“Promise.”

Cole and Olivia quickly became close. Truth be told, he needed her just as she needed him.

They talked about everything they could think of, about her heart locket and her family, about how he learned to have such a good shot by playing video games his whole childhood. Their chemistry was almost unreal. And not just because they might have been the last people on the face of the earth.

3 months went by, Olivia had moved into Cole’s house. And quickly fell in love with him. She fell pregnant soon after. She knew her child would never be happy living on a planet where he or she couldn’t even go outside, so they planned an escape.

The plan was all Olivia’s idea.

First, she made a distraction, holding a mirror to the sun and pointing it at a spacecraft hovering just 40 feet in the air. Then Cole shot the Greys as they came out to investigate. All in a moment they ran up into the spacecraft and shot and killed every last Grey that was onboard.

It took a little time but they learned how to fly the advanced technology. Now they had set off into the void to search for a new home.
