The Apartment

The apartment was very cheap to rent and in a great area. THEY were surprised to get it, although the estate agent told them that for some reason people only stayed there for a couple of months at the most, and were surprised it wasn’t a holiday let. The owners wanted longer-term tenants however they were prepared to let it at a well below market price.

THEY moved in, and the place was ten minutes walk from work so there was no need even to use public transport, the location was perfect. The main bedroom was amazing and that huge mirror above the mantlepiece was just stunning, a focal point that reflected the bedside lights and turned the room into a fairy grotto at night.

And So To Sleep

Sleeping with the night light on and feeling THEY were in a fairy grotto, the mirror almost looked like a portal to a magical world as the light flickered slightly, it looked like there were figures dancing in the mirror.

THEY drifted into a sleepy dreamland, dancing into the mirror ball, welcomed by the spectral images that inhabited that world. THEY were sleeping in the bed but they were part of the ball in the mirror, they were dancing in the arms of vampires and being drained as THEY slept. It was exhilarating and exciting and THEY gave themselves to it with total abandon, not realising that THEY were slowly being taken by those that would feed from them.

The First Morning Comes

The alarm sounded at six o’clock, the bedsheets were on the floor and THEY were shattered. Sleep had come but there had been no rest. Time for a shower a quick breakfast and coffee, getting dressed and then off to work.

In the office, colleagues asked if THEY were all right as they looked absolutely shattered. THEY said that they had had a bad night’s sleep but they would be OK. Keeping awake was difficult, looking at the computer screen kept causing their mind to drift off thinking about what happened last night, and then THEY would jolt back to full consciousness. This was not good.

An early finish, a walk home in the fresh air, then some coffee into the cafetiere and three cups of coffee but still they felt drained and shattered. Beans on toast was all THEY could manage for tea. A little TV and a late afternoon nap and then they felt rested but decided to go to bed.

Another Night

In bed and the magical mirror dominated the room. THEY were sure they could hear someone saying “Come and join us” but then THEY fell into the arms of Morpheus and were dancing with the spectres in the mirror once more. THEY knew there was something wrong but they were filled with erotic ecstasy and were not going to lose a second of it.

Another Morning

THEY were wrecked. Couldn't even shower, wash and clean teeth, and then to work.

“My god!! You’re white as a sheet. What happened? You need to see a doctor. Go home, get some rest, you can’t be at work like that”

Back Home

THEY phoned a doctor and gave their address.

“Excuse me, we have had a lot of calls from previous tenants, when we tested them they, for some reason had lost a lot of blood, could you come in so we can check and see if you have the same problem”

At The Surgery

“Your blood looks as though you have been bled, which would explain how you feel and why you look like you do. The others mentioned the mirror as well, and while I can’t say anything for certain it may be advisable to find somewhere else to stay.

THEY felt better, rang a friend to see if they could stay with them til THEY could find somewhere permanent, then it was straight to the estate agents to cancel the tenancy.

At The Estate Agents

“Oh I am really sorry, we have not had anyone stay in the apartment for more than a week. Mr Alucard will be most disappointed, he said he loves having tenants, and he gets so much from them”

THEY replied “I am sure Mr Alucard knows exactly why his tenants don’t stay for long.

Love the symbolic landlord. Maybe invite Buffy the vampire slayer to be a tenant. Good one, Mike 😎

What I'm hearing is "landlords are bloodsucking brass studs"... 😁 You've got a double but in the first paragraph, which makes that sentence a little clunky 🤔😁

This feels like a metaphor for the way landlords will “bleed you dry” financially, but also a very interesting vampire story in its own right. Nice job 💖
