My name is Corvus

That's not what he heard when I spoke.

He heard something else.

I tapped at his window and door, and I know he heard.

I came to warn him, to prepare him, because I knew that he was not long for this world.

I spoke and told him my name but the only word he heard was "Nevermore".

That was ironic.

He spoke of "Lenore", but his voice was quiet.

Was that his lost love, I was not sure.

I tried to tell him to say his goodbyes and make his peace with those who were close to him.

But he complained at my tapping, and could only think of his lost "Lenore" and he sank into a morose darkness.

He would soon be in a bed of velvet deep down with family who had passed before.

He would not listen to me.

I said "I am Corvus, Prepare yourself for your final farewell"

He heard "Nevermore" and answered "Lenore"

My time was short, there were more to prepare.

That is the lot of the Corvus.

I left.

I would never see him again in this world, nevermore.

And that is all he heard from me.
